Did Shavers really hit harder than the likes of George Foreman?

Dunno, I just find this really hard to believe TBH. Not doubting he was a massive puncher, but fighters do sometimes make rather odd picks when talking about the best they've faced etc. And there is sometimes bad blood, and friendships which will bias who they complement

There's too much unanimous testimony for him not to hit a tad harder imo. Both are enormously powerful however and Foreman a much better fighter.

Collectively Ali, Holmes, Lyle, Cobb, and Tillis fought Foreman x 2, Liston x 2, Frazier x3, Morrison, Cooney x2, and Bruno. They all said Shavers was the hardest puncher they faced. Most of them were unequivocal about it saying it wasn't close.

    That's good enough for me.

Hannibal has it right...I believe Norton said the same?

When these guys all concur, I think we have to believe them.

I don't doubt he was a massive puncher, and I'm sure it'd take a far lesser puncher to KO me. It's just when fighters talk about the best they face, they often seem to not what to give credit to their top rivals, especially ones that beat them etc. and often seem to make odd picks. So I'm not sure them picking him is enough to say he was a bigger puncher than ones who got more results like Foreman.

If it's true it just shows punch power ain't everything.

How many times has this subject been broached?
And always with the same result. This time a different answer is expected? That's the definition of insanity.

If you banned talking about stuff that's already been talked about, this place would look a hell of lot different.

I never intended to imply you did, only that a ton of the threads here have been spoken plenty before as well. But the opinions of the boards do tend to change a bit over time.

If you watch Shavers, he actually had good skills and some speed. In some ways more offensive skills than Foreman, and IMO more hand speed.

Shavers could set his offense up, and did much better vs Ali than Foreman did because he could also box.

Ron Lyle and Ken Norton fought both Shavers and Foreman. What did they say?

Did anyone ask Jerry Quarry...who walked through Shavers and K.O'ed Ernie. (Quarry might have said "George Chuvalo").
