Or other, you always hear Holmes was the best. But both his and Ali's were lightning fast and would tear your face to ribbons. But then there's Foreman's jab though clearly not as fast or accurate could legitimately stun quality HW's, the old adage Big George's jab was like getting hit with the ass end of a telephone pole. Personally I fell Ali's was the best of both worlds. It was by far is best punch, quicker then you can blink, amazingly accurate on the move, and even landed imo with more force than Holmes. Of course a argument can be made for any of the 3 or maybe someone I didn't name. Who do you guys think had/has the best Heavyweight Jab of all time?

You could always hear Ali's jab land with such a thud, that jab messed Floyd Patterson's back up something terrible. Maybe it's just the equipment they used back in Ali's prime was better, because when Holmes entered contender status in the late 70's I could never hear the same impact.

Here is a example, Holmes first real dangerous test against Shavers, shortly before he wins the Championship.

Holmes easily....on the contrary Holmes jab was a harder jab than Ali's ..Ali's was a flick half the time. Holmes was ram rod and he tried to shove it down your throat half the time.

If we limit ourselves to lineal champions

Holmes Louis Foreman Liston Lewis Tyson Holyfield Ali Wlad Fury

Would be my top 10 off the top of my head.

Holmes as nr1 for obvious reasons. The placings for Lewis Louis Fury Wlad Liston
Don't really need to be explained.

Old foreman could win a fight with basically just his jab because it was so uncomfortable to take.

Tyson had a great jab that he could use to outjab much taller skilled guys with.

Holufield had a well timed jab that he could double up and use to set up machine gun combinations.

Ali had a good jab but it often felt like he just used it to keep his opponent busy or score points. He didn't really use it as a punishing heavy punch like Holmes or a power shot on itsiown like liston or foreman. And it wasnt really a distraction for a sneaky power punch like lewis.

    Probably Holmes.

I liked Wlad's jab when it was still snappy and when he hooked off it.

Ali. nobody had an easy time countering it.

Holmes was always countered by right hands and guys could certainly come over the top of Foreman's. The trouble with doing that to Foreman was he was going to fire right back & the opponent had better move and not stay and admire their work.

I like Larry's right hand. for sure better than Ali's. watch it in the Spinks, Snipes, and Marvis Frazier fights. You could hear it land. I love the sound his right hand made as he landed it full force on an opponent - BLAM! SPLAT!

Ali threw more punches but Larry made his count

if I had to pick which fighter I'd choose to be it would be Foreman. he made it look so easy. an underrated boxer who needed just a handful of blows to take care of opponents

Ali's jab in the first fight against Patterson was just brutal. Never seen a better jab than that.

Toss-up between Ali and Holmes for me if we're talking prime for prime. Perhaps Ali.

Holmes kept the top quality of his jab longer, though. Ali was down to a pretty average jab post Manilla. Very little snap left. Those talking about Ali's flicking jab are probably thinking of this, older, version of Ali. Ali's jab was still a very potent weapon in the early 70's (the job it did on Foreman, for example), but in the 60's it was just outstanding.

Exactly, Ali's jab from the time he originally won the title until Frazier 3 in Manilla was vicious, you could hear that thud, audible. He would tear up and cut opponent after opponent with that jab, all while on the move. I'm not slighting Holmes jab in any way, it was beautiful and produced the same results, but I've never seen a jab breakdown fighters like Ali's did in his youth and prime. That jab screwed Patterson's back all to hell in their first encounter, to the point where it hurt him to set on the stool in the corner and his cornerman had to keep picking him up in between rounds to try to adjust it on the fly. That is not a flicking jab (though it very well at times looked that way) that's beautiful devastation.

Holmes gets my vote. I would also put Liston up there with those three.
