It's being reported on the Sky Sports website that AJ may be ordered to fight his mandatory by the WBO should he beat Povetkin.

That's funny, as just a couple of weeks ago the WBO said they were making Povetkin a mandatory defense, upgrading Joshua to 'super champion' should he win.

It doesn't make sense at all, and stinks of Hearn justifying the Whyte fight in April as a mandatory challenge.

I thought he was the WBA mandatory not the WBO like the title says. Joshua just won the WBO title from Parker several months back, seems kinda soon for a mandatory to be ordered.

The WBO confirmed to several media outlets that they were counting Povetkin as a mandatory defense.

I tried to leave a link to a talksport article from two weeks back but it makes my post invisible. Just google it.

WBO basically said they might put Whyte in a final eliminator.

History suggests he'll walk away from it...

Nah mate, they will say Whyte is the mandatory for AJ, and it's a nice wee justification (if he needs one) for Hearn to big up the Whyte rematch in April.

I mean, we all know that's the fight that is coming up. Hearn admitted as much on video with thaboxingvoice. I've noticed he has shamelessly lied on Twitter now regarding that comment saying "watch it again, I said if wilder refuses to sign" when he has been questioned about it. And no, he never said that.

I'm not so sure, the wording of it struck me as being indicative of there being a final eliminator.
"Further, the involvement of our WBO international heavyweight champion Mr. Dillian Whyte in a WBO heavyweight elimination bout is uncertain."
I think if they were just going to make him mandatory they would have either already said or mentioned it before the fight. We'll see, in the nicest way possible I hope that you're wrong.

They are just planting the seed.

I did think Whyte was gonna go the Charr route to pick up that WBA regular title so Hearn can play on that for the April fight.

I suspect Miller will go that route instead

Hearn will get Miller to be mandatory. Will claim they can't fight Wilder cause they have to defend the WBO. Like GGGs old excuse, All of the belts

Hearn would love to squeeze in Whyte and Miller. I'm saying to myself, surely he can't justify not fighting wilder after Whyte in April. But I said the same thing about the April date.

They'll make either Stiverne or Arreola (he's back!) the WBO mandatory, Sulaiman style. :stirrpot

Another reason why Wilder should of just laid Whyte out in the meantime. A good payday without Joshua afterwards would still have made sense to most people.
