its obvious he had a late prime, since he had his two best wins by far quite late (lacy and kessler at age 33-35) and earlier struggled to a virtual draw with the more limited, world level, Robin Reid. So to measure his prime performance at LHW, you need to sort of cut him off at age 35.5, when he was really a LHW due to weight gain. Thats between beating elite SMW kessler, and getting knocked over in round 1 but then beating 40something hopkins by whisker. The fight would take place on neutral terriroty between cardiff and las vegas...around about Newfoundland. So maths says create a hybrid opponent between elite 29 year SMW kessler and 43 year old LHW hopkins, whom we shall name- BERKEL HOPLER So thats - average age 36 (average of hopkins 43 and kesslers 29) someone between one handed injured elite, and world class. SO thats someone world class. Someone not quite as strong as kessler, but smarter ringwise like hopkins. Someone with titles between kesslers 2 unified, and bernards no title but ring magazine award. So Berkel Kesskins has 1 title. weighing about 175 pounds (between kesslers 168 and hopkins 178). This is the maximum opponent that prime 35.5 year old Calzaghe can beat at LHW, albeit after getting knocked down, and only win it by a small margin, still a win over a 36 year old LHW titlist (and arguably joes 2nd best win). Fight Night - round 1 joe gets floored by 36 year old Berkel Hopler round2-5 - joe gets outboxed by 36 year old Berkel round 6 - joe gains upper hand when Berkels hand breaks as did kesslers in his fight with joe round 7-12 joe uses his superior tank to catchup with the fading Berkel. Decision -calzaghe, by narrow margin. So Calzaghe can at best be expected to at maximum ability at LHW beat a post prime 36 year old single title holder one handed BERKEL HOPLER by a split decision, where joe gets floored but recovers to win on tank form round6 onwards when Berkel Hopler breaks his hand. I think Beterbiev is probably going to add up to more than that when he reaches his prime. Beefy is obviously better than a post prime 36 year old single title holder even now.
There's a massive difference between the Hopkins that JC fought and the one that Kovalev fought. In fact the Hopkins that Kovalev fought was closer to the version that Smith jr destroyed than the one Calzaghe slapped about.
Calzaghe by stoppage and Beterbiev never fights again. Beterbiev has been a complete bum as a professional and his one dimensional cave man plodding would be Calzaghe's wet dream.
He wasnt on ***** street dummy. The shot Calzaghe got dropped with didnt hit him on the chin, it was on the top of the nose and he was up straight away, he was standing square on. The big shot you mention that he was hit with had an illegal headbutt just before that made it look more, but even then he won that round and wasnt wobbling. Calzaghes legs werent weakened at all. You seem to forget that it was Hopkins wanting timeout and who was dropping to the floor, so I would imagine Hopkins legs were more weakened
Seems a very ignorant post. Tell me who all the past prime fighters were and then tell me when Calzaghes prime was also
Koelling went into the 12th round with Beterbiev. Do you think he is greater than Calzaghe at any stage?
Let me add to that and throw one back at you. Koelling went into his shell all night long. His sole mission was to survive. Do you think that would be Calzaghe's mission?
Joe C for me. I still need to see more from BETTER BEEF for me to start picking him in matches like this
