A heart patient who was room mates with Fidel Castro, and a recovering Drug addict that became a part time sumo wrestler after defeating Wlad?

Ah fair play well 3-2 to AJ then.

Whyte at the time and certainly Takam wasn't top 10 though.

Big "IF" in regards to it even happening as neither are exactly reliable when it comes to what they say. Both are great BS merchants.

But even if it does happen we have to see how Fury looks. Fury looked like garbage vs Seferi, I'd have picked anyone in the top 10 to beat that version of Fury. If Fury looks that bad vs Pianeta then Wilder beating a shot to **** Fury is meaningless. About as legacy worthy as Holyfield KOing a fat and disinterested Buster Douglas who basically was only showing up to be paid.

My problem with it is twofold. I don't accept your summary dismissal of Whyte. He may not be the prettiest boxer to watch but his achievements deserve at least a level of respect. Given who Wilder has fought in the past, he would be one of the best names on his resume if he'd taken the fight and won. The main point here however is form. In beating Helenius, Browne and Parker in his last three fights he's strung together decent results and is highly ranked across the board based on what he's doing now, not what he did 3 years ago.

Then there's Wilder. Having enjoyed the Ortiz fight I wanted Wilder to keep fighting high ranked opponents. If Wilder had announced a fight against Whyte it would've been the first time he defended his title against a top 5 opponent in his prime and if we're counting Stiverne (who I don't rate) the second time in 40 fights he fought such an opponent. Having fought an aging Ortiz I didn't want Wilder to go back to fighting guys further down the rankings or, in this case, seeking to take a guy on before he's back at his best. It smacks of the manipulation of his record that's dogged his career and its what I wanted to see come to an end.

If he fights Fury in November then he's taking on someone who was in the past far better than Whyte, but is coming back after a 3 year absence and a lot of other issues. I hope I'm wrong, hope Fury is back to his best and the fight is competitive. But Ali fought Frazier too early in his comeback and Fury's been far harder on his body than Ali was. Most observers feel he needs more fights and better opponents before he'll be a genuine contender again. Only the WBC disagrees, breaking ranks in June with the other organisations and putting Fury back in the top 7 after he beat Seferi. A very curious decision, but the WBC is making a lot of those.

That would be a good couple of wins, but ATG stuff? This would be just the kind of two wins in a row you would expect a champion of the past to have. Klitschko beating Pulev and Povetkin consecutively was significantly better for example.

Yet you rate AJ's win over Wlad who was a decade older than Fury, was coming directly off a loss and didn't have a single tune up fight after 2 years out?

At least be consistent. If you're not going to rate a win over Fury, then don't give credit for a win over a 40 year old inactive and demoralized Wlad.

    ATG?

In a weak era with the current proliferation of belts,Luis Ortiz and Tyson Fury still have had the grand sum of 2 world title fights between them,1 won and 1 lost.

ATG in any facet of the sport is defined by consistent top level achievements. If Fury or any other heavyweight beat Wilder and Joshua back to back right now then I would say yes THAT is an ATG heavyweight run of victories because of the current climate.

lol, say what you will but he came in totally switched on mentally and thats why he was so competitive. He was far from someone showing up for a pay cheque..

That Wlad would have beaten the Ortiz that turned up to fight Wilder tbh..

Far from an ATG HW achievement. Soooo far from an ATG HW achievement... It would be notable back to back fights, for this era, and I guess some out there would call Wilder the lineal champion, but that's it.

ATG? Not for me, not at all.

Assuming Fury looks good against Pianeta, it would very impressive though.

That would be two great consecutive wins but not quite an ATG achievement yet, he needs the Joshua fight right
after and if he would win this would be ATG achievement for sure.

Yea beating Ortiz and Wilder is an ATG achievement LMAO -- How many top 10 opponents do the two have between them? Is it 3? or 4?

It's impressive to beat them two back to back. It's a shame questions can be asked about the health and fitness of either of them.
