Whoever wins surely has claim to being #1 in the World and no this is no dig at AJ and his fans.

A win for Wilder or Fury would be a great win for either guy, but I think AJ should still remain number 1.

I think the significance of this fight largely depends on how Fury looks against Pianeta this weekend.
It's hard for Fury to look bad against current Pianeta of course, but you never know with the Seferi "fight" in mind.

While I agree with you (although I myself won't buy in even if he clocks him in the most impressive of ways), I don't think it will matter to some on here. They watched the Seferi fight and saw rose petals falling from the heavens.

The current number 1 is fighting number 3. The number 2 would be fighting someone at best ranked 5? Yet you would have the winner of the second match usurp the winner of the first.

Yeah. I'd back both Wilder and Fury to beat Povetkin if they fought today. Povetkin isn't completely shot, but he's past it and drug free and hasn't looked good in his last 3 fights. I feel Fury is only gonna get better and some rounds against Pianeta will do him good.

I just think you need better evidence than what we saw from Fury in Manchester. I would take any of the top hws to beat that guy.

Either way, what justification would you have for putting either over Joshua, a guy that will have beaten 4 of the current ring top ten?

Yep if Fury looks like garbage again, especially against a pretty much shot, feather fisted D level heavy like Pianeta then in all honestly it would simply just look like a cash out on Fury's part.

If Fury is totally shot after his inactivity, depression and massive weight gain and knowing full well Hearn won't give him a shot vs Joshua unless he beats someone half decent first then of course Wilder would be the best option for a cash out fight instead of Joshua.

Casual fans probably won't care, they'll tune in to see a shot Fury cash out vs Wilder as they fall from the BS from both sides about how significant the fight is when in reality we'll only be seeing a shadow of the fighter Fury once was vs Wilder.

I hope I'm wrong and Fury looks good and that this isn't just a cynical move from Fury to likely get some much needed money fast. Can't have been easy for him during his inactivity with no income and legal fees and a drug habit to pay for.

Uhm no. This is a fight between the #2 and the #5 of the world -- I am using Boxrec here which is very generous because Fury is unranked (!) among 3 out of 4 recognized sanctioning bodies. At best, the winner of Wilder vs. Fury has a claim to be #2 in the world.

I don't mean this argumentatively, I am just curious.

You don't think it's a bit silly to bring up ranks when talking about the affect of lineal? I mean the whole purpose of lineal was to do away with alphabet bull and here you are basically saying " But by alphabet bull**** ranks Fury's just barely a top five and you have to use an unofficial ranking system at that"

Which is a fair point except lineal's man who beat the man is specifically against it.

Maybe I mistook the others when they were saying 1-2 but I took it as Lineal Champ = 1 and all other champs = 2...because like you point out if you ain't going by lineal then Tyson isn't even close to 1 or 2.

Exactly this, are people insane on this forum?
Fury and Wilder have 1 belt between them and one is coming off a 2 year lay off.

This fight is for #2 guy in the division.
