Blackburn laid great stress on the jab.
    Mandell was Lightweight champ.
The best tactician I'm aware of is Eddie Futch.

The glove was already split and was only noticed at the end of the 4th round.
Cooper was already badly cut by then, and Ali got an extra 4 or 5 seconds, no more.

Dundee gets a little glossed over because he worked with the raw talent that was Ali - but I don’t think Muhammad could have been trained by anyone else, at least in his early years. He rebelled against the discipline Archie Moore tried to impose, and I’d guess he’d react the same way with anyone else (the thought of Ali and Cus in the same gym; oh, I’d pay to watch that ). I don’t think ANY trainer can be ldeal for all fighters, there are too many variables of behavior to guarantee 100% success - I think he was a great trainer with the right fighters.

Larry Holmes said the same thing about Dundee. In fact, he couldn’t stand the man. There’s also a story about either one of Ali’s or Leonard’s other trainers knocking Dundee out cold for calling him the N-word.

Dundee claims he was king hit when not looking for no reason. It seems he pushed people out of the way in his haste to get back to the dressing room. Correa claims a racial slur but i've never seen that supported.

Ali lost his legs after the lay off, and didn't have the same energy level. Dundee yelled at Ali to get off the ropes.

A rope a dope strategy vs a puncher like Foreman, had him nervous. But it worked out in the end.

He was great with people. He had cools and he said he could blend with his fighter. I loved the guy even when he was lying his ass off for Ali or one of his other fighters.

I wonder if Ali got constant pressure to dump Angelo for a black trainer. The NOI didnt exactly trust him. He kept Dundee all those years

Yes Lightweight my mistake. I agree on Futch. I like the way he could breakdown a boxers strengths and shortcomings. Then devise a battle plan.
