Could Holmes carry Marciano's jockstrap? I think not.

Larry Holmes would defeat everyone Rocky Marciano defeated when Rocky fought them.

    Yes.

A 28-year-old Rocky beat Louis. A 28-year-old Holmes who shut out Shavers and decisioned Norton would beat that version of Louis.

A 29-year-old Rocky beat Jersey Joe Walcott for the title. A 29-year-old Holmes who beat Earnie Shavers in a title defense would beat Walcott.

A 32-year-old Marciano beat Archie Moore. A 32-year-old Holmes who beat Cooney would beat Archie Moore.

    Holmes beats everyone Rocky fought.

Rocky doesn't do the same with Larry's opponents. Can you see a 42-year-old Rocky fighting and beating Ray Mercer? No.

Can see Rock knocking him out late or losing by points . Toss up. He def had a lot better stamina and more power.

Yeah, but what's really scary is looking at Marciano's title reign.

And quite honestly, Charles, Moore, Walcott and Louis as they were when they fought Marciano was better than many of Holmes opponents. Norton and M. Spinks perhaps Witherspoon and Williams would be exceptions.

    Marciano didn't fight at 42, so I can't say.

    Holmes opponents vs Marcianos opponents?

    :risas3:

Is there a serious problem finding five of Larrys opponents who would run a 49 - 0 in Rockys LHW-era?

I don't know who would win but I will say in my opinion they were both honorable champions that fought whoever was put in front of them and ducked no one. I have nothing but respect for both.

We agree on lots of things but I can't think of any of Holmes opponents besides the ones I listed to go 48 and 0. And even then, it's still questionable.

Putting full blown HWs into the LH-Cruiser-Era?
Rocky ran 48 - 0 in 8 years. You can count big good guys on one hand.

    -->

    Cooney
    Witherspoon
    Norton
Jones went 26 - 0 in Holmes era
    Mercer
    Williams

The thing is, its very very debatable...

Today's cruiserweights probably enter the ring at 220 or so come fight night after drying out. Wouldn't that make a lot of Holmes opponents cruiserweights by today's standards. Gassiev for example looks every bit as big as Witherspoon or Berbick

Also the size gap between Holmes opponents and today's heavies is greater than that between those of Holmes era and Marcianos era

    That is not true.

Todays HWs don“t average 245. I think alot of them ar not as lean as the guys in Holmes era.
