(Note: it remains possible that Román González vs. Moises Fuentes could replace Brækhus vs. Lopez on the PPV televised card...although it will be a mere 10-rounder with nothing at stake while the latter is a 5 belt unification featuring the consensus women's p4p #1)

    Compare with last time:

    1. JoJo Díaz vs. Rafael Alvarado Rivera (maybe could've looked even on paper to a casual fan glancing on BoxRec, both with zeroes on the line; Rivera had a mostly padded record and this was in reality a mismatch in favor of JoJo, who pitched a shutout. Pretty dull and "meh" fight...)
    2. Randy Caballero vs. Diego de La Hoya (was supposed to be a legitimately competitive battle of unbeaten stars waiting to break out; turned out to be a mismatch and near-shutout in favor of DDLH. Pretty dull and "meh" fight...)
    3. Ryan Martin vs. Francisco Rojo (more of a mismatch on paper that wound up being close as Martin on an off-night fought down to Rojo's level while the latter stepped up and fought his ass off until gassing. Okay fight...)

I'd say this is looking to be a much better PPV card in comparison - and that's regardless of which 10-rounder kicks off the official PPV broadcast and which is relegated to a prelims stream. :deal:

It's nice that Munguia is being so active, albeit not against great competition, but still he is fun to watch. :chuck:

I'm probably just as excited as you for that one but if we're being objective I think we have to concede that Munguia vs. Cook is right there in the same ballpark with it. Or do you foresee that one being a one sided affair, or a disappointing clash of styles?

The hell's wrong with Cook?! :dunno

A year ago people saw his fight with Kanat Islam as being 50-50 and among the bright spots on the Autumn '17 docket. One loss to a justifiably hyped guy in a "somebody's 0 must go" match and he's chopped liver all of a sudden?

Speaking of Islam, why the **** has it been a year since he fought?!?

The jury's still out in my mind at least on that one. Liam's chin I have a feeling is far better than Cook's, and if I had to hazard a guess, I think Munguia's power is more legit that Islam's. It all depends on if Cook can take his power, if he can, then yeah, that should be damn entertaining. Or potentially a one sided beatdown.

Not saying Cook is chopped liver. Given the short period of time after the Liam Smith fight, it's a good match.

I have no issues with Munguia's level of opposition, when he's being this active.

I think more boxers, especially in the US, need to take note.

If you're going to continue this trend of 20+ fights against opponents with losing records, at least fight more frequently.

'I've been doing a lot of good work in the gym' is great - but it doesn't build you a profile if the fans can't see it.

Also the fact that Munguia was still a complete unknown as of, like, five minutes ago.

He beat up Sadam Ali, well okay; that could easily be attributed to "a pretty good (but constitutionally fragile) smaller guy loses to a so-so bigger strong/tough-chinned guy".

So his one name-making W is Beefy Smith? Eh. I'm going to need some more convincing that he's some new bogeyman.

And let's be fair, he looked very ragged at times against Smith. Wide open shots, off balance, far to eager to score a KO blow/succession of punches that someone bigger and stronger would have picked him off from or decoyed him in with.

That being said, a good head hunting fighter who has that gutsy fan pleasing appeal to engage in a tear up. Also, great that he's being so active ala Joe Joyce.

If they were equal in size Ali would have pitched a shutout else stopped Munguia. :deal:

True, but the talent is there in Munguia and even in times during the Smith fight, where he was swinging wildly, he threw his shots very fluidly.
