Just watched another Vaughan-trained fighter fail at the weekend. (No disrespect to Barnes, I thought he was performing ok in the fight, unlike most). But despite world-class facilities at his disposal Vaughan-trained boxers aren’t doing well and their conditioning overall seems poor. Thoughts?

Feel the same as you, never been impressed, but he is always talked about highly so I can only assume he is fantastic behind closed doors.

Has he had any notable success that would warrant him being highly thought of? All I see is fighter after fighter falling down in the area of conditioning...just for example the 2recent Irish guys Jamie conlon and Barnes were. Oath floored by body shots....the abs can be strengthened against body shots but it takes dedication to train hard ...and that’s partly a trainers issue surely?

His fighters always seem to lose when they step up although they are almost always underdogs in these fights. That’s not a dig, moreso an observation.

Dont rate him at all -- been handed some top boxers and done nothing with them. It is failure after failure

I see he is not with johno carroll now either

Is it a fair observation that MTK boxers seem to be poorly conditioned? It's as if don't seem to be living the life, dedicated , committed etc. Even going back to Matthew macklin, he didn't achieve as much as he could have I feel, possibly due to lack of training discipline ... And if this untrue his much of it isdanny Vaughans fault? Or is a wider malaise affecting MTK fighters overall?

That shot Barnes took could have dropped anybody.

As for Conlan he has always been very vulnerable to the body.

Your barking up the wrong tree with Macklin,he was a fanatical trainer and he had an unbelievable workrate for a middleweight/light middleweight.

His punch output, conditioning and desire v Moore,Martinez and Sturm was phenomenal.2 of those 3 fights he was stopped largely because he threw too much at too high a pace,he had an amazing workrate.

He has a big reputation but how much is that down to being the son of the legendary Georgie Vaughan and how much is down to being the husband of the CEO of MTK ? I think Stephen Simmons regressed under him and would have had a better career in the Pros if he was with Billy Nelson throughout. I see he has put Barnes and Charlie Edwards in world title fights well too early. Edwards looks 100x better in his last outing with a new trainer. The top MTK fighters many of which have got new trainers in recent times certainly never went with him

Going off the fight the other night it seemed a dumb move to go toe to toe with bigger guy that punches a lot harder than you, whether that was the plan or it just happened that way.

The only knock on Macklin as a world class fighter was pacing himself..He could hang with anyone with gas in the tank..GGG was the only fighter to do that to him early doors. No shame there !

Conlan came up against a fighter (Ancajas) whom I would personally put in my top ten p4p list. I’m a big fan of his, his jab is one of the best in the business imo. My point is, there’s no shame losing to him.

Absolutely agree about ancajas, but it was the Manner of the defeat. Down almost instantly after first bell rang. Commentators thought it was a leg injury, it was so sudden.but no it was just a regular ancajas body shot. Not even a particularly hard one. Almost every round was 10-8. Total wipeout of a guy who should NEVER have been in there to begin with.

I remember that, it was horrific commentary from Rawling and Woodhall; Rawling in particular. It was quite clearly a delayed reaction from the bodyshot and Rawling was insisting it was a knee injury. Then after the bell rang you could clearly hear DV in the corner say "delayed reaction" and Rawling starts speculating whether it was an ankle injury.

Going off-topic here but Rawling has been **** poor recently, especially for calling Wilder a southpaw.
