Unfortunately the nuthug Marciano fans on this site don’t do him any justice. Actually the people who defend him the best are people like you who recognize his greatness but look at him objectively and see the limitations

I'm a big Marciano fan, but I see him for what he was. He was able to deliver damage on his opponents and his KO ratio is noteworthy.

I'm not really interested in what he could or couldn't do in another era so much, despite him being that enigma of the extremes, i.e. he was a small heavyweight for his own time, let alone what he'd be in this one.

If I see speculation about him launching 250lb, 6' 6" guys out of the ring, I generally tend to smile and move on. Similarly, when I see pointless observations about the challenges he'd have faced in this modern SHW era, I tend to yawn and move on.

The guy was a phenomenon is his own time. That's good enough for me.

Rex Layne was beat to a pulp before the coup de grace was administered. Old Joe Walcott had just shot his wad trying to stop Marciano before he got lazy off the ropes. Rocky hit him with some huge rights earlier that did little to slow him.

Joe Louis called him a street fighter.

Bert Sugar was a clown, God rest his soul. If you take him seriously, you are more concerned with myth and storytelling than ringwork.

    Attrition puncher.

While he was an attrition puncher, he did have ATG one punch right handed power against men his own size..hence my screename. Nicknamed Suzy Q

I believe Marciano could have knocked out many 190 and below fighters throughout history with his vaunted right hand punch if he loaded up and landed correctly

Goldman never hesitated in stating Marcianos Suzy Q right hand was a devastating punch

    Co-sign.

What is with Rocky that make people go crazy in both directions? He was a fine champion and as tough and dedicated as they come. End of.

Unfortunately he has some hardcore fans who like to unrealistically pump up his level of opponents up to god like status....it causes certain posters to turn against rocky

Look in the cockell thread. There is one poster, chokelab, who referred to cockell as “most qualified to fight for the title as any contender in history”

    LOL

If this isn't a rhetorical question than my response is that it's
    1. He is white
    2. 49-0

Those 2 things polarize him either direction. Some believe because he didn't lose that it's inconceivable. Some that he was a total fraud and overated and race plays a part for many people.

This is not an insult. It's a complimentt to Rocky as a fighter. You can't be an attrition puncher without having determination, conditioning, power and the chin to take the incoming. Without those attributes it never comes down to that.
