He fought some bouts at 201 in the amateurs and if he cannot make 175 anymore than what other recourse does he have? Problem is they actually VADA test the guy so adding muscle the way Murican fighters do is not possible. Just moving up and adding water and adipose tissue will not do him any favore up there obviously.

Maxim Vlasov granted not an elite fighter has moved from 168 to 200 and never looked better. kovalev has all the tools to do just fine up there but it is also a very talented division.

He also has the chance to keep earning money an provide for his family's future. He's not a privileged American like Berto or Broner who get paid much more for doing much less.

Kovalev will bend over from the first good body shot from a big cruiserweight

He's only spent years chasing that fight.

Stevenson hasn't took a risk in about 4 years now, the two losses to Ward are not enough to diminish Kovalev as a threat.

If he barely took that right of Ward's he's not going to be able to take the best of Kudryashov or Gassiev. Really stupid move if he does this, especially with today's cruiserweights. If he can't make 175 his likely difficult remaining career will be completely done. A fight or two against light heavyweights at 185 lbs might be good to keep him comfortable though.

    Too small.

Imagine him against someone like Usyk.

That's not going to work for Kovalev.

Krusher will not move to Cruiserweight, it is too weak for him. But Cruiserweight will MOVE to HIM. The division will be renamed KRUSHERWEIGHT.

With Uysk likely to move up to Heavyweight and vacate his belt and also, Fonfara and Pascal in the top 10. Could Kovalev eye a move to CW?

I feel you cant teach an old dog new tricks, he's only 35 but he's an old 35. He has a hatton life style, he'll win some and lose some if he carries on, I bet people call him out if he can get his hands on a belt.

I can’t think of many ranked light heavyweights who moved to cruiser and couldn’t fight well there.

A true cruiser with power, who is not afraid of Kovalev's reputation, will probably just press in and TKO him.

    Kovalev would best to retire.

bad idea at age 35, these kinds of moves are usually by younger fighters mid 20's. I dont like kovalev but I do like boxing and this is dangerous considering all things. seriously lhw are taking him out. nothing to prove here make your money and retire.

Good argument if he can get a good camp together and approach his top form again, but I'm not confident he can do that. Would be happy to be wrong about that.
