The problem is that 15 rounds can't happen in the US. Someone will die or get seriously injured late in a fight and then there will be a $20 million lawsuit. I'm sure the athletic commissions are aware of that.

Yes and no. The 12 round format in my opinion increases the chances for a bad decision. I've seen too many clear 7-5's turn into 6-6, or 5-7 the other way and some judges tend to do their own math in the final rounds, contrary to punch stats and what I'd call a fair evaluation. I saw this in Kovalev vs Ward 1 ( Round ten ) and in GGG vs Canelo ( Canleo won 10, 11, and 12 on all cards ) and its utter crap.

With an odd number of rounds you are more likely to get the correct winner.

I'd be okay with 13 rounds, the number would suit boxing.

I say bring 15 rounds back on special type of events, such as title unification fights.

I can hear it now in Michael Buffer's voice. FIFTEEN ROUNDS of Boxing for the _____ _____ championship of the world! There isn’t a boxing fan alive that I know that would not want to hear those words.

Most deaths in boxing are from sustained beatings in the lower weights or because a guy is dehydrated. In rounds 13, 14 and 15, let the corner or the doctor stop the fight if a person is taking a pounding and is too prideful to stop.

Actually from what I heard its a death at the hands of a PED fighter that the promoters fear the most.

That’s a separate issue and no 15 rounders are happening at this time.

Came here to make some of the same points. Would make a difference in some fight outcomes (helps slow starters and guys with great stamina, for example) but I think people really exaggerate the difference between training for 12 3-minute intervals with 11 1-minute rest periods versus training for 15 3-minute intervals with 14 1-minute rest periods.

I believe smaller gloves solves that issue. Less of a prolonged beating than with the bigger gloves IMO

Most of you aren't thinking this through. If you add a surprise 3 rounds after 12 then maybe it would work out the way you imagine.

But if the fighters already know ahead of time that they have to fight an extra rounds they will pace themselves differently and you get the same result as in a 12 rounder squeezed into a larger package.

The only time it would really make a difference is if both fighters are in the best possible shaoe but one fighter has a huge genetic stamina advantage that would show in a longer fight if he forces the other guy to work hard to keep him off.

But other than that it really wouldn't change that much, like I said before if Joe Louis knew he only had 12 rounds to get to Billy Conn he would have simply fought every round a little harder and stepped on the gas earlier. No, Billy wouldn't have won a 12 rounder in all likelihood.

Maybe because of cuts the fights will be shorter but neither headgear or larger gloves do much for your brain.
You can get knocked out by an airbag.
You can get knocked out by running into a wall while holding a gym ball in front of your chest without your head ever touching the wall.

Or if they’re not going to do 15 on a regular basis for title fights only then maybe a 3 round overtime in cases of a draw? Idk throwing ideas around

15 rounds or an odd number of rounds.

As far as tiring, that is mind over matter. Pryor went 15 rounds throwing all the way. Norton & Holmes thrw more punches in round 15, than most HWs throw in the 1st few rounds.

Qawi & Holy threw more in round 15 than a mofo!

They won't go back. The days of 15 round fights are over.

Maybe the powers that be could implement 15 rounds for unification bouts.

The extreme dehydration is caused by the severe weight cutting. If 15 Rd fights were brought back then there would have to be rehydration rules. I also believe more fighters will stay at their natural weight class instead of draining themselves, to be better conditioned for the fight.
