Any examples of very good pros who were generally fine for 12 rounds but regularly fell apart between rounds 13 and 15?

He didn't have trouble with Shields in 13 rounds whom he stopped or Benitez whom he won a decision against over 15 in 1982.

He didn’t look great vs Shields as it was his first fight pre Leonard when doubters started talking about both his stamina and his punch losing power after a few rounds. The Bentez fight, his second best performance came in a kind of a slow, jabbing match. Hearns looked very tired many times in his career. He hung on against Barkley in the rematch, Kitchen in a very questionable decision, Roldan in a war, in the Leonard rematch he clung for his like in the 12th. Against Hagler he lost his legs after two rounds. Hearns was a super exciting warrior but his chin and his stamina were always question marks. When he was able to control the pace he could be solid but when pushed he became dicey.

Thanks but I'm looking for guys who were fine for 12 rounds but who wilted in the old championship rounds (13, 14, and 15). As you mentioned, DLH often gassed before the 12th round (I think it was probably nerves/being wound too tight more than conditioning).

Yes , understood. Hearns was badly hurt, exhausted and hanging on for his life the last half of the round. If it continued to 15 it would have ended earlier than their first fight ..

Tony seemed to gas in those late rounds, although the Saxton fight was his absolute best. But the Basilio and Akins fights he seemed to be coming apart at the seams late in the bouts. One could say it was just from punches but it seemed to be fatigue also setting in.

Ike Quartey didn't fight during the 15 round days but I felt like he faded in the late rounds against Oscar, Vargas and Forest. Had he not tired in those fights he would probably be in the hall of fame. I still think he beat Forest but Oscar and Fernando edged him in the championship rounds to win those two fights.
