Just no. No one outside of lids has heard of warrington, ditto for Frampton and Belfast. Groves is very well known for getting splattered by the cobra twice, granted, but probably 95% of UK households know the Eubank name, whether you or I like it, facts are facts.
I can see a couple of executions or life behind bars happening if any scousers or cockneys travel to that disgusting **** hole.
Apparently a big double header annoucement next week for a UK fight. Probably be just series 2 fights, but would be great if they had this fight plus one of the S2 ones. Would be a kick in the nuts for the two fighters to have this scrap in some random oil rich nation.
I think the double header is definitely Josh Taylor then either doubling it up with Burnett or Flanagan.
The scousers and cockneys, Are known to be rowdy, I know said Kalle, We'll just move it to Saudi, When it's looking like aggro, Is the way that it's headed, You'd better get running, Or you'll wind up beheaded, So the fights off to Jeddah, And to there in their droves, Go the fans of Liam smith, And also George Groves,
A bit harsh that mate. There are reasons why some folk object to PPVs. Many many years ago people subscribed to SSports, many of them football fans and they got to watch all or most of the games, it was superb. Some people got to watch the occasional boxing on it and subscribed anyway just so they could watch it... Then something happened with watching boxing and so called big fights. They introduced PPV for it. You paid and watched a certain fight that night or did you??? Those who didnt buy it got to watch it for free the week after... I saw people betting on fights that had already happened believing it was on SS on Saturday live!!! Fake fights. Don't believe me, take a look at old fight posters from the 80s 90s... Live on CCTV only. So where and how do/did you watch yours??? Take your time!
Groves is the best in the division, the little doubt I had about that was then eroded when he took apart Eubank. It was a master class and once again underlined how good George Groves is (without being spectacular too IMO). His jab is one of the best in the game and I include all weight classes and fighters in that. He’s still relatively young and his ring IQ and experience belies that, he’s an old head on young shoulders. On to the shoulder, this is where the doubts creep in about George. Is he fully recovered? Will he be the same fighter? Smith makes an excellent point in the IFL interview. If Groves isn’t fit or didn’t think he was he would walk away. Hes the man in the division and pretty much guaranteed a pay day when he recovers regardless as he would still be World Champion and the big name of the division. So I’m going to suggest yes Groves is 100% fit. Over to Callum Smith. He was my pre tournament pick. He’s a giant of a man, an absolute colossus. He dwarfs Groves - which takes some doing. His size, his power, his range are all excellent and i thought he would step up to the next level during the tournament. Unfortunately I think a combination of underwhelming opponents, venue uncertainties and dropouts (both in the semi) it took a lot of wind out his sails. I’m hoping that the final and it being against George Groves brings out the best Callum Smith and if it does we have one hell of a fight on our hands. It’s pretty much close to 50/50. Is there a bigger domestic clash this year?
Great post mate. I rate Smith highly, I know @moog does too. I just fancy Groves for this. It’s a step up for Smith after not fighting regularly enough. I don’t think Smith has fought at this level before. He’s got away with a few fundamental errors, such as moving back in straight lines. I don’t think he has enough head movement either. A few years ago, groves would have tried to exchange and would have been stopped imo, but he’s a smarter fighter now. I like both fighters, and i’m glad it’s being built up in a respectful way.
