Rocky beats Frazier in an awesome fight. I’m not the only one to think so Archie Moore, Ali, and Foreman thought the same.

Fosters punch did not carry up to heavyweight..

Here are the top 10 ranked heavyweights Foster fought

    Ernie Terrell
    Doug Jones
    Zora Foley
    Muhammad Ali
    Joe Frazier

Foster went 0-5 with 4 knockout losses

Moore’s record against top 10 heavyweights was 12-3 with 9 knockouts

Walcott was not a former middleweight. He was a natural heavyweight and rock solid 195lb of muscle. He was a big hitter. RING named Walcott number 66 in their top 100 punchers list of all time. Walcott floored Louis 3x and knocked Ezzard Charles out cold with 1 punch. Walcott could crack

A knockout loss to Jimmy Slade, a win over number 4 lastarza, and a win over number 9 Matthews warrants a number 2 ranking in the division?

    “Same chances”

What chance did Valdes get after being named number 1 by all major publications and “only logical contender”?

Oh that’s right, he got an eliminator against a hall of famer. We call that an obstacle placed in his direct path.

When cockell got promoted to number 2, did he have to fight any eliminators vs the number 1 guy or did he get a direct shot?

Yes..everybody knows that the "heavyweights" that moore fought were the same in size and quality than the hws that foster fought... Bob foster did hit as hard if not harder than archie moore who was a former middleweight plus he was an old man when he did put the ass of rocky on the floor, i have no timefor your trash

Doug Jones knocked out Ernie Terrell

    Zora Foley beat Doug Jones

You’re telling me the top ranked heavyweights Moore beat were worse in quality than those men?

Harold Johnson, whom Moore beat 4 times, shutout Doug Jones 15 rounds to 0.

Alejandro Lavorante, whom Moore knocked unconscious, knocked out Zora Foley.

Baker and Valdes were 6’3 215lb heavyweights with skills and power.

Foster couldn’t hack it against any type of ranked heavyweight!

It would in any other era, so why not?

Look at the men currently ranked in the top ten, and who did they beat who was ranked?

By that logic, you could say that every title eliminator, was an obstacle for the guy that lost!

There was the little matter that Marciano would have to fight the winner!

Again, I look at the rankings, and can't side against him!

Because their were at least 3 men who deserved higher ratings in February of 1955 when Marciano Cokkell was signed

    1. Nino Valdes - no explanation necessary since he was rated higher than cockell

    2. Archie Moore- victories over Henry, Baker, and Valdes easily should place him above Cockell

    3. Bob Baker

Slade knocked out cockell. Baker beat slade in dec of 1954 then beat Layne and Wallace (beat Wilson who knocked out cokkell) in early 55. More impressive than Cockells wins over lastarza and Matthews

Those 3 are definites which means cokkell should definitely be at least 4th instead of 2nd

Also Earl walls (beat slade in Jan of 1955, slade knocked out cokkell) has a case.

If harold Johnson campaigned at heavyweight, he would definitely be above cokkell

Hurricane Jackson’s work in 1954 probably earned him a spot over cokkel. Beating Bucceroni ( beat Wilson and Slade who knocked out cokkell) , Layne norkus and henry In 54 is more impressive than any wins cokkell had.

Heinz Neuhaus, Euro champ to Cockells British champ

Cockell could have been anywhere from 4-9th

And yet all contemporary reports at the time make it clear he was regarded “little between” him and Cokkell. Everyone knew neither Cokkell or Valdes would get past Archie Moore. Cokkell and Moore were at least unbeaten during Rockys reign. Valdes wasn’t. Baker wasn’t. Valdes Lost 5 times during Marcianos title reign.

yes Moore was the only real threat to Marciano. Archie was Rockys policeman if you like.

Bob Baker was knocked as flat as a pancake by Bob Satterfeild in one round during Rockys reign. Satterfeild lost to Layne, Charles and Moore. He fought everyone but Baker was about the only decent guy he beat.

yes in 1951 when Don was still a lightheavyweight. A short notice fight where because Don couldn’t get the weight off in time the match was made at 13 stone. It was a drop in form that came two fights before Don embarked on the unbeaten 10 fight heavyweight career that earned him the 1955 ranking of #2.

Bringing up the 1951 slade loss is equal to bringing up Nino being laid out cold in one round against old Joe Louis in an exhibition in 1950.

over all or at the time? The only legitimate threat to Rocky at the time was Archie Moore. The rest of the top ten were largely regarded as of no real threat. And that includes Cokkell, Baker, Walls and Valdes.

you keep piping up about Slade as this trump card, well Jackson never beat slade convincingly and lost a three fight series against him! Whilst it’s obvious Jackson did have some useful wins overall he kept losing to slade or Valdes at the wrong moment around the time he could have went above Cokkell who was on a 10 fight unbeaten run.

Earl Walls Lost fights during Rockys reign, blowing any appeal he could have had, and he lost to guys Don cokkell beat.

In fact one of the guys Walls Lost to during Rockys championship was a 8 fight novice who never won another fight ever again over the next four years until he retired!

Walls was never more than a local attraction in Canada. Beating Slade four years after Slade beat Cokkell is about as relevant as mentioning another guy beating someone so long after it meant anything. Only you didn’t mention Slade also beat Walls!

You are keen to label other fighters as hype jobs yet you want to put Walls ahead of Cokkell?? When did any other contender lose to a novice who never won another fight and remain threat to championship status?

Making up a lot of stuff per usual

    “Little between”

Except that’s not true. Valdes was rated number 1 by every major boxing publication and nba rated Valdes “most logical contender” and Jim Norris head of the IBC most important man in boxing named Valdes “only logical contender” and told Weill Valdes was the only man Marciano should fight.

The press laughed at cockell because of his fat appearance, weak chin, and inability to punch hard

    “Everyone knew”

Did they? Then how come Valdes almost beat Moore in 55? The fight was dead even going into the last round according to the UPI and Ap scorecards. Clearly Moore wasn’t much better than Valdes at all. Valdes also beat Ezzard Charles, a world champion easier than Marciano did.

    “Cockell unbeaten”

Easy to stay unbeaten when you’re manager feeds you a steady diet of light heavyweights, washed up journeyman, and tomato cans.

    “”Moore only threat to Marciano”

Valdes was. Valdes was 6’3 215lb with a FOOT reach advantage over Marciano. Valdes also had a very big punch. Marciano never fought anyone like him. Marciano matched up better stylistically with Moore than he did Valdes.

    “Satterfield”

Who would have knocked Cockells fat ass out easily because cockell was a slow plodder with a weak chin. Aaron Wilson and Jimmy Slade knocked him out at heavyweight. Satterfield would destroy him

Cockell never avenged the slade loss while baker beat slade 2x.

Baker also beat Coley Wallace 2x whom beat Aaron Wilson (knocked out cockell)

Baker also easily beat Cesar Brion

Baker fought and defeated much tougher completion than cokkell

“Cockell wasn’t a heavyweight against slade”

Except he was, weighing 181lb vs slade. That is a heavyweight

    “Jackson”

    Had big wins in 1954

Knocked out Layne norkus Bucceroni and beat Henry

What did don do which was better than that?

Cockell was a middleweight British hype job who had no business fighting at heavyweight. His entire heavyweight resume is a close points win over a washed up lastarza, and 3 wins over west coast light heavyweight Matthews. He was also knocked out by Jimmy Slade Nino Valdes and Aaron Wilson at heavyweight.

Walls was 6’2 with a 78” reach and a big punch. He flattened Layne 2x when Layne tried to go toe to toe. Layne was far better than cokkell. Cokkell only knew how to get inside, walls would batter him on the way in

Cokkell lost by knockout to Slade and Wilson at heavyweight. Two featherfisted punchers
