The only knockouts Cokkell suffered at heavyweight were against Marciano and kittone Lave. The Valdes loss was a cut eye corner retirement. Don was a spent force after Rocky anyway.

What helped Don was that he didn’t lose fights during Rockys reign. Valdes Lost five times whilst Rocky was champion. Moore was the only threat.

Yeah his eye was cut against Valdes because he was getting his face smashed in from Valdes punches. He got floored in the first from a Right hand, and then Valdes used his superior size strength and length to batter cockell for the next two rounds

    "Losses"

Again, when you're fighting cream puffs, shopworn trialhorses, and tomato cans you probably won't pick up many losses

When you're fighting elite fighters like Valdes was facing (Harold Johnson, Ezzard Charles, Bob Baker, Hurricane Jackson, Archie Moore) you're bound to pick up a few losses

But you wouldn't understand that. Take Rocky's balls out of your mouth

    Wrong

Cockell weighed 184lb vs Aaron Wilson
Cockell weighed 181lb vs Jimmy Slade

Are you denying Cockell was a heavyweight in these fights?

you can make any argument you want. Cockell has zero case for a title shot over Nino Valdes. This debate is over.

Please stop saying Valdes had a big punch. There was no big punch there. None. Rocky stayed unbeaten by knocking our 88pct of his opponents. Fought the best of his time. I don’t get all the hate for a great champion. The competition wasn’t as great as other eras but at the same time these people fought everyone and cherry picked far less then today. When compared to ranked fighters he fought as champion his resume stacks as well or better then most. Marciano def brings out the haters.

    You sure?

This guy went 22 rounds with Floyd Patterson before being stopped. Valdes flattened him in 2

Are you going to call all of Don cokkells fights heavyweight fights since there was no such thing as an exclusive LH division back then? Don fought 8 times in 1950 and two bouts he weighed a few pounds over the limit against lightheavyweights. He was as low as 173 after those fights.

Don had a 12 fight run against heavyweights after losing to Randy Turpin where he weighed 197 -218. Isn’t that where he became a heavyweight?

So 181 and 184 is a few lb over the light heavyweight limit?

Marciano weighed 184 vs Walcott. Should that count as a light heavyweight?

Guy had a 50 pct KO rate or something and what 10 or 11 loses on his record at the time. Why is this guy being hyped up to something he never was.

36 Kos out of 48 wins...a 75 percent Ko percentage

No one here is claiming he would beat Marciano. All we are saying is he deserved the title shot over fat boy don
And yes....He was a big puncher. You denying it shows how little you know about the era...

Valdes knocked out/stopped the following men who were top 10 fighters a one point in their careers

    Fat boy Don
    Brian London
    Joe Erskine
    Hurricane Jackson
    Heinz Neuhaus
    Johnny Summerlin
    Harold Carter
    Pat McMurtry
    Dick Richardson
