Some amateur boxers have a hundred or so fights by then. Guys like Roy Jones Jr, Andre Ward, and Floyd Mayweather started when they were 5 or 6. Pacquiao had something like 60 amateur fights and then turned pro at 16. Wilfred Benitez turned pro at 15 and beat an ATG for a title at 17. That's about on track for a Thai. He burned out early too. Whitaker started boxing at 9 and got over 200 amateur fights in by 20 when he turned pro. That's the usual way Muay Thai fighters do it. I don't think they match them with adults right away. They just don't have separate amateur and professional divisions.

I agree it's wrong and barbaric. Especially not having an age range. 14 year old fighting a 22 year old is madness.

There isn't that much difference between a 14 year old fighting pro and most top level professionals in the world today having fought in the amateur circuit and sparred in the gym since they were almost half that age. I don't think there should be youth amateur circuits for 10 year olds so, hey, I try to be consistent here. Can't have it both ways.

Why are mods allowed to bypass the filtering of banned words routinely on this forum, over and over again, but when I did it twice in a two day span I got banned for 2 weeks and cited for "banned words are banned, do NOT manipulate text to get around the filter..."? Just curious but hey that's cool.

It doesn't mean he won't eat. It means he'll be channeled into prostitution. Thailand, bro. Thailand.

yeah, its pretty common, given whats involved. my condemnation isnt born out of a moralistic outrage, its from a view of what is best for all, not just within the group in question, but us all, both as willing participants and silent bystanders.

Buakaw Banchamek started when he was 8. Dude was a Manny Pacquiao type beast until he was about 32. He's still fighting at 36 even though he's only ranked the number 5 lightweight in the world.

then it becomes a question of whats worse, a victim of a child predator or a human dog fighter. a question of which, if any, would you support to avoid the other?
im not offering any solutions, just pointing out the working reality of the situation.

what i see different in that, is that the responsibility for any abuse, if it exists, rests a lot closer to home and not spread out among my neighbors who are also profiteering from any possible abuse.

I had so much fun at rifle camp when I was 5. I got in trouble for screwing around on the archery range, so they took away my bow, but I was like "**** it, I'll just go shoot .22s."

They had three more years of experience than their competitors. That's why Jones, Mayweather, etc had to start as children. If you take up boxing at 18 you fight like Wilder if you're lucky.

You're not the first person to address this, and I haven't responded to it on the board openly before now, but here goes:

I don't even remember that I'm technically a mod here, most days. In fact, the only time I remember is when I want to bypass a dumb ass word censor filter or edit flubs & typos (increasingly frequent since most of my posting has come to be on my smartphone, which is very stupidly reliant on auto-correct & auto-completion...and with a touchscreen keyboard designed for the nimble fingers of young aspiring J-pop starlets, and not for my giant pale sausage digits) in my posts without the system leaving that snitching "last edited by" tracer, which I can't stand. I'm really not a mod here, except in name only, and people need to stop throwing privates messages at me asking to resolve disputes or right various wrongs (something I've begun to address with people via PM on a case by case basis, yet merits announcing publicly). I don't care, and don't have time for that. I'm not paid to be on here, and my time on here compared to just three or four years ago has dropped off dramatically. What relatively little time spent lurking & posting on here, I don't want to waste on policing a place that even the full-time mods can barely keep a handle on. Hard pass. I've just retained the abilities of a mod despite never really contributing as one, probably as a sign of respect from the admins (just blindly guessing here, they hardly ever come around and virtually never communicate with us mods, or at least with me) because of my emeritus status as the "glue" that held this place together after the whole Lounge-burning and exodus, and before that for years as the RBR guy and just all-around hot shit poster and forum MVP and whatnot. Anyway, I do what I want, as a rule, regardless of whether I'm part of the "powers that be" as people seem to assume now, or more of a renegade Robin Hood like I used to be on here. I act independently and do my own thing. Always. If I weren't a mod, I'd be passing word filters, and the Professor would be banning me. Over and over. Probably never permanently, not with my clout here and not for such a minor infraction, but probably quite frequently and with increasingly vexed and threatening tones on his part. It would come to be a running joke, like my weekly bans at the hands of Reggie Hammond used to be years ago. Is it kind of wrong that I flaunt my immunity to consequences, while others get banned for doing the same things? Eh, maybe. I'm honestly not going to stop doing it, though. Sorry. I hate censorship, and think having a word filter on an internet forum devoted to a subject with a 99% grown-up demographic like boxing is absolutely absurd. I'm going to keep bypassing that filter, even if the admins directly ask me not to, and even if my mod powers are ever stripped, and even if it gets me banned every other week. It is what it is. :nusenuse:
