Boxing promoting is definatley a job where you are guaranteed to get some stick, but I'm actually pro Eddie, IN my opinion he does a decent job, I don't like every show he puts on but he seems to take care of his fighters financially. In an industry where we have had a promoter who was literally a murderer, ones known for robbing their own fighters blind, not paying their medical bills etc... I just don't see what's so bad about Eddie. But I would like to see from the other side, if you are anti-hearn why is that?
Across the forum threads they roam, With bloodshot eyes and mouth's that foam, Both young and old of every age, United only by the rage, That takes them when his name they hear, That's when Ed's haters appear, And if he's praised that's when you learn, Just how deep runs their hate for Hearn, Let's speculate on just what might, Motivate their boundless spite, Did this guy spill so many drinks, That pushed their sanity to the brinks Or was his pricey private schooling, Now their darker feelings ruling, Whatever was the original sin, That caused this hatred to begin, It should be viewed in due perspective, Before it's cause of such invective, So please let's give the dude a break, Even if you find the man a fake, He's helped enrich the sport we love, So put that hate aside now bruv, Let's cut the guy a little slack, It's time to get off Eddie's back,
I like Hearn too. These are the reasons I think he gets hated on, some more justifiable than others. 1. People hate on success. Whether it's jealousy or they see a particular individual as undeserving of success. 2. Joshua-Wilder saga. I think it's fairly obvious that they are letting this fight 'marinate' to make more money down the line. This sucks for fans and all parties share some of the blame. However, Hearn is the face of the operation and thus takes most of the blame. 3. American tribalism. America has historically been the home of boxing, but I think some American fans don't like the fact that a young upstart British promoter is making waves over there. If I was Amercian, I would be buying a DAZN subscription ASAP. 4. PPVs. If you already pay for a hefty Sky Sports subscription, being told that you don't even get all the sport and that have to pay more can be a bitter pill to swallow. I personally hate the PPV model and will never buy one. However, no promoter is different in this regard. If the others could be selling PPVs then they would, it's just that only Hearn can as of now. 5. Matchmaking. Again, I don't think Hearn is any different from other promoters here, but as he puts on more shows than others he will also put on more bad fights.
This year Sky sports subscribers who are boing fans will feel stiffed for sure. Thats 4 regular shows and 3 PPVs. I would say this is the only genuine criticism you can make against Hearn. He pays his fighters on time when he says he will, he makes them good money. He doesnt over protect his fighters. He gets a B+ report card.
Yeah its felt PPV heavy already this year. When Warren gets started as well I think boxing fans will get much choosier. On the plus side once DAZN deal kicks in UK sky sports will get some more cards from that.
Because he’s the best. However! It’s a very poor year from him so far, all his attention seems to have shifted to America...
Hes excellent at doing his job in over hyping certain fighters who do not deserve it and hyping fighters who do. Throw into the mix the casual factor that has attached itself to Joshua and you have a winning team. I personally cannot stand him, slimy, smug and a habitual liar to boot, he has a face you'd never tire of punching.
Because this is England and we knock anyone who’s at the top of their game and a little smug about it. If I had to choose to keep one it would’ve been him cos he’s relevant and looks like he can go with the times. Once Fwank loses Tyson/BJS & Co I can’t see him lasting much longer.
Eddie is miles ahead of Frank in nearly every department right now but Warren won’t be going anywhere until he gets carried out in a box. He has survived real adversity as a promoter in this sport, but as of now he has belt holders in Saunders,Warrington and Tete,2 major names who can fill arenas with Fury and Frampton and involvement in both World Series of boxing divisions starting next with Flanagan and the adopted scouser. Then Liam Smith,Jack Catterall,O Hara Davies plus guys he has invested in like Anthony Yarde,Daniel Dubois,Nathan Gorman and Ryan Garner. He isn’t going anywhere,he is like a cockroach and after all the dark days on BN,losing all his stars and trying to fiddle the likes of Butler and Buglioni to world level he is now is in the game, what will have been his planned end game.Box office on BT sports and he has had 2 stadium shows in 2018. He is well behind Eddie but you must be mad to think he walks away.
Couldn’t give two ****s about promoters. I find it quite odd to be a ‘fan’ of that element of a sport. They’re a necessary evil. I did like @Holler ’s poem though.
He gets hate because of his clear contempt for the average fan. I don't think he talks people down because he's a bad person, it's just because he's been born with a silver spoon in his mouth.
