Given the global obesity crisis, I imagine it's easier to find 14 year old HW's than it once was.

700 children die in the states every year swimming.

And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? - Matthew 7:3-5

Everything is a disease if its pushed to the extreme, same thing goes for conservatism, Christianity, Islam, Socialism, Feminism, etc. As Plautus said, in everything the middle course is best, all things in excess bring trouble to men.

You seen Sacha Baron Cohen's new show Who is America? Here's a clip where he pitches guns for three year olds to republicans.

Dude, Plautus was a hilarious filthy comedic playwright, and that's Aristotle's Golden Mean.

i was just making fun of the far rights penchant for projection and hyperbole. but i agree, its very common on both sides. i sit towards the middle watching these ants build their hills.

Not often I browse the cesspit that is the GF, but I just wanted to get something straight.

Some people are against the OP because other bad things happen? I mean it sounds crazy when I write it down but I'm sure that's what the gist is for some people here "yeah but other bad things happen"

This is a boxing forum. A bad issue in boxing is child exploitation, regardless of whatever bad stuff is also happening, this is still bad.

I mean a kid boxing, aspirationally speaking will do well to be as big a name as Nipper was, but being shot by 16 and punch drunk by 20 is morally wrong on any level.

No one denies bad things happen elsewhere, but that does not mean this situation is any less wrong.

It's like when I'm telling a kid off "you shouldn't be talking" and they say "yeah but child A threw a glue stick" regardless of the glue stick being thrown, he still shouldn't have been talking.

    That is all.

I actually don't see anything wrong with this. I think those kids are badass and kind of envy them. I wish I'd stuck with Karate instead of dropping out after a lesson or two when I was five. Sports build character. Being good at something when you are young instills confidence. I think combat sports are a noble profession. They aren't for everyone, but certain types of people are definitely meant to be warriors.

Maybe, I'm callous or old fashioned. Maybe, I'm a caveman who's behind the times, but I really don't have a problem with blood sports. I like to see people fight. It feels natural, primal, like something we've always done, like something we have to do. As much as I hear about toxic masculinity, boys are bad, and how we all need to behave more like little girls, I think guys like to rough house. Some like to fight. To a certain extent it's natural and healthy. I think we have these instincts. The same kind of guy can become a cop, a soldier, or a criminal. You put a pair of gloves on a kid to keep him from picking up a gun or a knife and mugging people in the street.

If it's dangerous, we let people do dangerous **** all the time. That's part of living in a free country.

i think he is saying what im saying. nothing wrong with putting the gloves on a couple of 14yos and let them wail on each other under controlled conditions. putting that boy in against a man who is feeding his family by beating your ass, and you making money off of that is wrong. if a parent wants to draw up a contract for his son to fight a grown man, thats his business, it shouldnt be boxings business, which all of us are involved in on some level.

I'm against mismatches too, but where do you draw the line? A-listers beat up on scrubs every day in our sport and nobody says boo. Mikey Garcia is trying to fight Manny Pacquiao as we speak. We'll let a 30 year old fight a 40 year old. We'll let Danny Garcia fight Rod Salka. This is all acceptable. Part of the reason I stopped playing football in the sixth grade was because I was about five three and the coach put me up against a kid who was six foot. He sent me flying like a cannonball. At least in boxing and kickboxing you have weight classes.

Kids facing kids their own level is ideal, and I don't like the idea of seeing kids facing competitors with far more experience than them. However, in the example of the OP, this was a 14 year old with a 1-0 record against a similar sized adult with a 2-0 record, and the kid won a wide UD. That doesn't sound too intimidating to me. It sort of reminds me of how we'll put a young prospect up against an old man with a losing record in his debut. I hear that in Thailand you don't even need a license to fight in the ring. It's a common sight for tourists to attend a card, lace on some gloves and get their ass kicked by a pro, just because they want to see what it's like.

i hear you, but what about all the other fights that arent this evenly matched but an unscrupulous promoter decided to put on anyway, because legally he can? how much responsibility rests on a 14yo for being caught up in that situation? we're dealing with the lives and futures of children too young to understand all the risks and relying on people earning a living off of him fighting for his protection.
