Alexis Arguello vs Rafael "Bazooka" Limon (July 8, 1979) (15 Rounds for the WBC Super Featherweight Title)

    Round 1: 10-9 Arguello
    Round 2: 10-9 Arguello
    Round 3: 10-9 Arguello
    Round 4: 10-9 Limon
    Round 5: 10-9 Limon
    Round 6: 10-9 Arguello
    Round 7: 10-9 Arguello
    Round 8: 10-9 Arguello
    Round 9: 10-9 Arguello
    Round 10: 10-9 Arguello
    Round 11: TKO (on cuts)

    My Score: 98-92 Arguello

Official Scores: (7-1-2 Arguello) (7-2-1 Arguello) (6-2-2 Arguello)
Winner: By 11th round Technical Knockout due to cuts to retain the Super Featherweight Championship of the World, Alexis Arguello.

What a slugfest, both fighters traded bombs through the first third of the fight. Arguello took command and dominated from the second third to the end, slicing Limon's face up and busting his nose. What's really impressive here, is that Arguello by this time was having a terrible time making the 130 lb. limit, and was ready to move up to 35 3 fights ago (if you include this one.) To be severely dehydrated with stamina reserves not being anywhere near where they should, yet to be able to put up a performance like this against a very tough opponent like "Bazooka" Limon is a impressive feat.

Oscar De La Hoya vs. Shane Mosley I 12 ROunds @ Welterweight, June 17, 2000

    Round 1 Mosley 10-9
Shane's speed and activity caused Ocsar a lot of problems, won round easily.
Round 2 De La Hoya 10-9 DLH's found his range, found a home for his jab, right and left hook to the body.
Round 3 Mosley 10-9 Close round, Mosley's lead right di more damage than De La Hoya's counter lefts.
Round 4 De La Hoya 10-9 Oscar took the 4th with his lead right, and working the body, but still close.
Round 5 De La Hoya 10-9 Flurries throughout and left hooks from Oscar, one of which rocked Shane takes it.
Round 6 De la Hoya 10-9 Very close, Shane's jab was effective, but Oscar's counter hooks and rights edged it.
Round 7 Mosley 10-9 Shane's lead right was effective again, Oscar did some decent body work, close round.
Round 8 Mosley 10-9 Shane beating Oscar to the punch, Oscar had a few moments, but not enough.
Round 9 Mosley 10-9 Oscar had a few moments, landed nasty left hook, but Mosley took the rest of the round.
Round 10 Mosley 10-9 Razor close round, Oscar landed heavier shots, but Shane was more accurate and active.
Round 11 Mosley 10-9 Oscar looking slow and sluggish, Mosley took it rather easily, with clean heavy shots.
Round 12 Mosley 10-9 They go at it, total slugfest in the 12th, Mosley's faster accurate hands wins it for him.

    116-112 Mosley

Less close that I remembered it to be,Mosley won it rather easily, the first 7 or 8 rounds were back and forth, but Mosley pulled away and dominated the final third of the match. Brilliant performance from Mosley.

Pretty easy fight to score, if Shields had any kinda punch at all he wins this fight. Great fight, even though the only upload I could find ends with 14 seconds left in the final round, still I felt Shields did more than enough to win the round through two minutes forty-six seconds.

Winner: By Unanimous Decision to retain the WBC Light-Heavyweight Championship of the World Matthew Saad Muhammad.

I don't understand why in every Saad Muhammad fight they talk about him getting knocked down in the first Marvin Jonson fight. That is not true, the only fighter to hit the canvas was Johnson himself in the final round. Franklin tasted canvas in the Kates fight but Johnson never dropped Saad.

    Never seen this fight before.
Don't know Terrell either, he looked the technically sounder fighter of the two, but just lacked the power and endurance of Mike.
Like they always say; "Power, not skills pay the bills!"

James Toney vs. Mike McCallum 12 Rounds @ Middleweight, December 13, 1991.

    Round 1 McCallum 10-9
Mike landed heavier and outworked Toney by a smidge in a a back and forth round.
Round 2 Toney 10-9 James got the shoulder roll going and blocked or parried a lot, landed some nice rights.
Round 3 Toney 10-9 Razor close, near 10-10, Toney edged it barely with the slightly cleaner work.
Round 4 Toney 10-9 Toney nailed Mike with several hard thudding rights, Mike's jab and counters were solid.
Round 5 McCallum 10-9 Mike played defense, laid back and counter Toney with jabs, Toney landed a nice right.
Round 6 Toney 10-9 Near even round with Mike landed nice counters, Toney steals it with a few savage rights.
Round 7 McCallum 10-9 Mike defending and countering well, working the jab, hurt Toney to the body.
Round 8 Toney 10-9 Solid Toney round, he rolled, slipped, and countered with rights uppercuts and combinations.
Round 9 McCallum 10-9 Solid Mike round, he worked over Toney with combinations, left hooks and body shots.
Round 10 Toney 10-9 Solid Toney round, James dominates first and last minutes, with tremendous bombs.
Round 11 Toney 10-9 Very Close round, Mike jabbed well, but Toney landed a few nice left hooks and rights.
Round 12 Toney 10-9 MM does well early, JT unleashes two vicious flurries that had MM out on his feet.

    116-112 James Toney

Masterpiece between two brilliant fighters that not only saw them adjusting to each other from one round to the next, but adjusting to each others adjustments sometimes multiple times per round. Even though I had Toney winning, several of the early rounds were near even, so a draw is perfectly fine. Toney is probably one of my favorite fighters, because he's the perfect balance of offense and defense, a genuine stylistic role model that I really wish more American fighters would've emulated, but nope, they chose Mayweather instead.:ohno And I'm still not sure why I haven't done a thread on him.

I had it 115-113 for Toney because i gave McCallum the 3rd round when i remember correctly, it's one of the
greatest fights i have ever seen and i watched it about 20 times, it's definitely a timeless masterpiece.

Roberto Duran vs Zeferino Gonzalez (September 28, 1979) (10 Rounds Jr. Middleweights)

    Round 1: 10-9 Duran
    Round 2: 10-9 Duran
    Round 3: 10-9 Duran
    Round 4: 10-9 Duran
    Round 5: 10-9 Gonzalez

    Round 7: 10-9 Duran
    Round 8: 10-9 Duran
    Round 9: 10-9 Duran
    Round 10: 10-9 Duran

    My Score: 98-92 Duran

Official Scores: (99-91 Duran) (99-92 Duran) (98-92 Duran)
Winner: By Unanimous Decision Roberto Duran.

This card was star studded, Jimmy Young fought Michael Dokes on the undercard, Ray Leonard defended his NABF WW title, you had Duran here in the co-main, then Wilfredo Gomez defended his Super Bantamweight title, and finally the Main Event Larry Holmes defended the Heavyweight Championship of the World in a very excitng fight against Earnie Shavers. Four HOG'ers and certified ATG's fighting on the same card at Caesar's Palace in Vegas, now that's a PPV I would throw down some money on!

robert "pikin" quiroga vs "kid" akeem anifowoshe - for the ibf super flyweight title
one of the best and most brutal fights ive ever seen live. akeem started vomiting blood after the decision, went into a coma and had brain surgery. they were using 6 oz gloves in this match, which became ring mags fight of the year in 91.
    This content is protected

    1. quiroga- close, but robert was more consistently landing
    2. quiroga- same as first but akeem is starting to use his reach more and catching robert with uppers as he tries to get inside by ducking down
    3. anifowoshe- akeem picks up the pace and manages to slice robert up while landing the harder blows
    4. quiroga- could go either way but i thought roberts defence edged it as he used his gloves very effectively to block shots and kept the pressure on.
    5. quiroga- robert wins on activity, sharpness and variety
    6. anifowoshe- akeem picks up the pace and has more success keeping robert at the end of his punches and countering well when robert does get in.
    7. quiroga- close rd. akeem is swinging for the fences and landing the more eye catching shots, but roberts defence takes some of the steam off those shots by partially blocking or rolling with the punches. robert looking the classier fighter but fighting a bigger man.
    8. anifowoshe- akeems size and strength starting to make a difference, robert hanging in with heart.
    9. quiroga- very close rd but robert putting more quality work
    10. quiroga- robert consistently landing the cleaner blows, if not the hardest
    11. anifowoshe- i think akeem edges it on activity and pushing the fight
    12. quiroga- akeem controls most of the rd but robert steals it in the last minute.

    my score
    quiroga 8-4
robert is from my home town so i may be slightly biased, although i tried not to be, you can be the judge of that.
i want to mention in case you missed it, both these guys were 21 years old and both died tragic deaths in their youth. lots of people had it much closer, i just felt robert looked the more skilled fighter throughout.
