Are you guys annoyed by the gap between Mikey's theoretical opposition and his actual opposition?

Sturm lost to Geale. (Golovkin destroyed Geale)
Quillin was destroyed by Jacobs. (Golovkin floored and decisioned Jacobs)

Charlo and Canelo are better than Pavlik and Pirog. Neither Pavlik nor Pirog were known for their longevity. Both only beat one name and sort of fell off the map.

How well Golovkin finishes up against Canelo and Charlo ... and maybe even Hurd ... will go a long way toward how he's remembered.

Ward wasn't a real rival of Golovkin's. Ward left the division the year Golovkin turned pro and Ward never considered going back. Golovkin has spent 12 years and will spend his whole professional career as a middleweight. Ward's considering fights at cruiserweight now. (Ward's not, nor ever has been, relevant in terms of being an actual opponent of Golovkin, just like Ward wasn't considered a possible opponent of any of the other middles mentioned here.)

I will fight anyone between 154-168. That is a lot of big names between those classes. Notable names who calles out GGG but he did not fight.

The reason I stopped being on the MG bandwagon is the same reason I got off Golovkin's.

 

glad you cleared that up, seeing that, then this thread, within 3 minutes of each other had me thinking youd lost it.
some people on here are not going to like mikey, i get that, he is a threat to a lot of heros, but his quality should not be a mystery to anyone who claims to know boxing. people have a hard time separating what hes doing from what he wants to be doing, both of which only an elite fighter can do.

hes not getting credit for calling people out, he gets credit for winning while calling people out. what you describe is broner.
maybe 3 fighters have a chance at beating mikey between 135 and 147, everyone else is going to disappoint you because they arent those 3, and mikey is fighting them.

 

I remember heaps of people around here saying that there was no point in him fighting all those guys since he would "obviously beat them".
