Exactly. The west has gotten soft. Boxing is a sport. So's hunting. They're not equivalent to **** and murder.

With all due respect, its not like IB and I are known for our strident SJW tendencies, neither of us are what you'd call cushy or hyper sensitive.

These are kids, not adults, there's a reason kids can't vote, drink, ave sex legally with adults, smoke or do drugs.

No one is advocating fully cognizant adults be banned from participating in violent sports and risking their long term effects here.

I don't get fans of boxing who think people shouldn't box. This CTE stuff has made everyone pussies. Not just for kids, adults too. I can't stand all the whining I hear around here about the fighter's health. All the early stoppages, all the quit jobs, the ducking and running, because health comes first. Well, maybe it shouldn't. Maybe, we should let people drink, smoke, and eat what they want. Let them box, have unprotected sex, and drive fast without seatbelts. ****in' nanny state where people got to be protected from bad words.

Yeah, but right now we're having a big discussion about what is and isn't ****. I have a female friend who thinks that if a man doesn't ask his wife before having sex it's ****, and if a boyfriend has decided he's going to break up with a girl but hasn't told her so he can lay her one last time it's ****. The other day, she made a big deal about how the TSA searching you at the airport and cops getting doctors to do a cavity search is "proxy ****." A lot of feminists think that any sex you decide later you didn't like, even if it was consensual can be relabeled **** after the fact. Sex between two drunk adults is ****. Then you have inappropriate sexual conduct, whatever that means. Garrison Keillor got fired for giving a woman an awkward hug. Al Franken had to stop being a senator because decades ago when he was a comedian he pretended to grab a woman's boobs. Louis Ck invited women who didn't work for him up to his hotel after a gig for drinks and then asked their permission before jerking off in front of them. What law did he break? So yeah, I'd say that ****'s not black and white and we live on a spectrum.

It kind of sounded like it. Almost as if, well its either that or prostitution. One's preferable. If that wasn't your intention, then sorry.

Eh, I've seen IB get squeamish plenty of times over adults, and he's always trotting out that CTE crap, clutching pearls "People are risking their lives!" He likes that pansy boxing, thinks it's all about defense, that it's a tragedy when anyone actually hits each other and that offensive minded fighters are dumb apes.

Oh, and heaven forbid that children smoke, do drugs, or have premarital sex. How old were you when you had your first drink or smoke? Did you wait until you were 21? Or did you try things out when you were 14 like everybody?

Yeah and I totally agree, all that bull**** is maddening, you know where I come down on most of those examples you gave. But that's not what we're talking about here. If we were discussing kids 15-18 in terms of sex or fighting, then that's open for discussion, because there's a lot of wiggle room there, like an 18 year with a 16 year old girlfriend, or a 17 year old fighting a 19 year old, but this is people risking children's long term health for monetary gain.

Yeah IB is a little more sensitive than I, but he's not what I'd call a snowflake. And for the record, fighters are risking their lives.

You're talking to the wrong ****ing guy here. I had a pretty strong moral compass even as a kid, I had a drink or two when I was 16, aside from a hit off of a joint, I've never done a drug in my life, the only thing that I never saw as an issue was premarital sex, because that's a natural urge, and even then I was 17. Getting shitfaced and hiding from your problems isn't a natural urge, its a crutch, a weakness, which I detest. I have all kinds of strict personal codes, I'm a really harsh mother****er.

Live fast, die young and leave a good looking corpse perhaps? I must have done something wrong because I was a very very bad boy when I was young but I'm almost (but not quite) as old as McVey.

It's not a weakness, it's a legal right and choice. It's one of the few drugs that actually are legal and freely available to use at our discretion. (Yes there is a reason that governments make it legal and age restricted like l voting, driving etc and it's not taxation) are you one of those dudes who makes a complete ass out of himself when drunk?

Yeah okay, keep telling yourself that.

Of course its legal and people should be allowed to use it, but that doesn't mean you should. That being said, I don't give a damn if you do or don't.

And no, I'm not, because I don't drink.

With regards to junior kickboxing in the UK, I believe the juniors are allowed to compete from age 10 and are categorised by weight up to age 17. 16 year olds are also allowed to compete in the adult divisions.

So you could have a 16 year old facing a full blown 35 year old veteran in full contact competitive kickboxing. In the United Kingdom.

actually I know of amateur boxers who were big for their ages having to fight adults. But also, this was amateur boxing with a different level of referee scrutiny, bigger gloves and headgear

14 years old is too young for professional fighting.
