Comparing Deontay Wilder to Riddick Bowe.....I was wrong.

After winning the WBC belt, Finkle's immediate response to a 'Legacy' unfication fight with Klitschko was a flat out refusal. Citing that Wilder was just a 'Prospect' who at this stage of his career 'wasn't ready for Klitschko'.

At this point, WBC HW Champion of the World decided to take on some voluntary defences. 5 to be precise, of which all 5 were against opposition that would not be considered top 10 in the division, by anyone other than their immediate family.

It was between these fights which Tyson Fury, did what Wilder has previously refused to do, and travelled to Germany and became the first man ever to outpoint the 'ATG' Wladimir Klitschko. What then occurred, was Wilder's inability again, to secure a 'Legacy' fight. When Tyson Fury stormed the ring post one of Wilder's voluntary fights, Wilder seemed as interested in securing a fight with Fury, and the chance to become undisputed, as a Turkey is excited at Christmas. To him, Fury was just a 'Nobody' a 'joke' and a 'Bum' when asked about a potential unification bout.

Following Fury's inability to stay off the coke and his decision to have all his meals prepared at Nando's, it was time for another man to take stage. Step forward Deont......Nope, Anthony Joshua. For the second time in his career, Wilder had been unable to get in the ring with Wladimir Klitschko in a unification bout, whilst it was also the second time another, younger and more inexperienced HW, had jumped ahead of Deontay Wilder.

Like Wilder, Joshua's team too thought that the Wladimir Klitschko fight was 'too early' for a 'prospect' like Joshua. But, unlike Wilder, Joshua took the fight, and became the third different Unified champion of the HW division since Wilder's debut. Joshua, wasted little time, and again added another belt to his collection, which belonged to New Zealander Joe Parker.

The pattern of Deontay Wilder refusing another Legacy fight has since continued. A fight in 2018 with Anthony Joshua was refused due to 'A poor financial deal'. A further offer, for April 2019 was then placed on the table and initially accepted by Wilder.....Before his team, without reasoning as to why, flat out refused citing....."We will not fight in April".


I compared Wilder to the 'Riddick Bowe' of this generation.
However, after concluding the above, it's fair to say that it is an unfair comparison.

Bowe refused to entertain fighting Lewis, for what is the greatest fight any boxer can have in this sport.
Wilder has refused to entertain fighting 3 different HW fighters for a chance to become the Undisputed Heavyweight champion of the World.

The comparison to Bowe was unfair and unjust.
Bowe has far more credibility.

 

Plus we will never really know the politics surrounding that Lewis fight....Maybe there was a reason as to why that could never be made.

But for a reason to not make a bout for the Undisputed HW crown, with 3 different HW's?
Cannot be a coincidence....

 

That would be the next chapter of the story.....

It doesn't mean the previous chapters were incorrect.
