    Very bizarre for me.

Off the back of that Career best performance against Linares, where bar the knockdown, you can make an argument for him at least earning a draw.....Why has he changed to Shane Mcguigan?

After the cut and KD Campbell really came of age that night for me and showed that Olympic quality/pedigree.

Must be that he wants to base himself closer to home?

Or just reckons he can't bring the same old same old again versus a top shelf operator like Mendy. :nusenuse:

You didn't see improvements against Linares?

Completely different style than Mendy. What he tried last time out didn't work, and this is one he can't afford to muck up. Lose to him once and then avenge it, and sure you can shrug it off as having been a fluke. Lose twice, however, and the man clearly has your number (just as French journeyman Abdoulaye Soukouna, victorious in less than half of his pro bouts, appears to weirdly have Mendy's in turn, with a 2-0-1 mark over him in their rivalry spanning from 2008-11) - and lose twice within a year, if you're Luke, and the climb up to contention again becomes dauntingly steep.

Maybe the chemistry with Rubio simply isn't there anymore in camp and Luke just feels it was time for some house cleaning.

Did he not join Rubio after losing to Mendy?

Either way, it just seems odd to me as Campbell has improved with Rubio.

Mcguigan isn't exactly known as being a trainer capable of improving fighters imo.

He's no Joe 'Hands up and walk forward' Gallagher, but I was disappointed with how he set Frampton up in the Santa Cruz rematch.

Ah, you're right about the timing there. Mendy loss was 2015 and he linked up with Jorge in 2016. That's a bit odd then, at least give the formula its proper chance, you'd think, especially if he was showing improvement under him.

Whatever about changing trainers... That does happen OK. .. Why now and why mcguigan? I mean Shane's OK. But he is still relatively unproven beyond the physical aspect. ....and Carl frampton seems fitter and making weight better since leaving Shane. He hasn't shown himself to be a great tactical trainer. Plus Shane might be a bit domineering and dictatorial I feel.... Must've wanted to be closer to home....

The real reason we might never know, but from what I’ve heard/read Luke say, he simply looks up to Shane, considers him a great coach and spending few weeks with him made him believe he’ll achieve a lot more with McGuigan around.
In short, seems like it’s just Luke’s gut feeling that that’s the way forward.

He seems to give Luke that boost of confidence you have from having the right man in your corner, that’s important, just ask Kovalev. Although it’s all words for now, we’ll see what the performance is like.

Maybe that’s what he needs - dictatorial leader to tell him what to do, no ifs and buts. For some this works better.

i thought it came out of left-field a bit as well. only reason i can think off is training in Miami or La or wherever it was, was just too far away from his family, so he's moved back to the UK

Luke has said he wants to be closer to home.
I just don't see Shane been a better coach than Jorge for Luke.
Luke moved over to Jorge after the mend loss and since then he's come on great imo. Even the linares loss was a good performance. Jorge experience with southpaws is legendary in the game, he know southpaw strategy probably as good as anyone in the game, I'm not sure that Shane has even trained a southpaw, and now is not the time to 'be learning on the job
Only good thing that maybe comes out of this move is that like can spend more time in his home environment.
That can be good for a fighter.

But was Frampton's preparation and performance that night not hampered by the outside the ring Barry Mcguigan shenanigans. He still fought a great fight just got the tactics wrong where LSC changed his plan for the rematch and executed it perfectly.

Either way I think it is early to call on how good of a trainer Shane Mcguigan is at world level. What he had achieved with Frampton is impressive for how young he is.

I think they'll work quite well together personally.
