Modern nutrition and training techniques undoubtedly give the average boxer an edge over his 1940 counterpart but we must also take raw talent into consideration and ask ourselves if Joe Louis posessed more raw talent than Deontay Wilder and not only that but enough raw talent to also compensate for Wilder's modern advantages in having access to better nutrition and training? After thinking it over I believe Louis edges Wilder, but only just.

if you are going to claim that boxers tday have better methods of training then you have to consider the two with all things equal. If you arent putting aside the proverbial running spikes then theres no point in making a comparison.

Furthermore, better researched techniques dont change the optimum level the boxer can reach - if a boxer can reach his optimum level regardless through his own professionalism, then its no advantage to the modern boxer

who cares.. For him to say things like this is so idiotic. Then he will be knocked cold by Joshua. I think Tyson would have knocked out Wilder in one or two rounds to be honest. That easily. What does it matter what he says. I think Tim Witherspoon would have stopped him in a few rounds also I don't think he is that great. I think he has a great punch and not a great chin and poor defense. His defense is his offense. When that is not enough he will be stopped. And he does not have great experience so.

I would expect him to say something like “Well, it’s really impossible to compare fighters from totally different eras. He was, by far, the greatest fighter in his era and I am here to prove that I am the best in mine. If I am, someday, considered half the champion the great Joe Louis was, I would have a lot to be proud of.”

Actually, I wouldn’t expect Wilder to say something like that. That’s what I would expect from some sort of respectable person/champion, however.

"would" implies that he gets into a ring with Joe Louis,

unless he is talking about fighting an actual corpse, we all know Wilder has no balls and would never step into the ring with an ATG.

But he did say he wanted a "body" on his record....

It's not about if he's right or wrong.

It's about having respect for not only great boxers, but historically significant figures. Without Joe Louis, Deontay Wilder works a menial job or less. That is not a theory but a fact. Joe Louis re-broke the color barrier for the heavyweight championship that had been built since Jack Johnson horrified white customers. And he had to take a ton of **** to do it. Read "The Great Black Hope" by Richard Bak.

Would it have really killed Deontay to demure and say "I can knock anyone in the current division out, but Joe Louis was special." Did he have to protect his fragile ego in this manner? Or was it just asinine to create buzz?

Say what you want about Tyson, but he respected the past. Just after koing Larry Holmes, he said "If this was Larry Holmes in his prime I wouldn't have stood a chance." I doubt Wilder knows anything about boxing history that he wasn't told by someone else.

These stupid fighters really need to fight more, and talk less. I try not to even care what some of these idiots say but this one really riled me up. How ignorant.

Lennox Lewis's is a stance HW's should look to take.

Just the other day he said something like.....
"I would back myself against any HW of any era.....But you can only prove yourself to be the best of your era".

I don’t agree with all of the criticism on Wilder’s recent opposition but the irony of him literally calling out a dead guy (RIP) is kinda funny.

I cant actually believe wilder would say this when his best win is someone who would barely make bum of month for louis resulting in a fast KO.

Did he actually say thee words, only a utter nut would say it.

There's no way he's avoiding Tyson who weighs in the same as him regardless of his height and reach. Tyson can take that 1 punch also that levels **** poor opponents Wilders been facing. I'd go with 2 rounds also. Joe Louis COULD get sparked or tko'd with the same shot Tyson can take off Wilder imo, regardless of the difference in levels between them. I think Tim's sneaky right hand connects at some stage too and its all over. Bowe and Lewis Holyfield are guarantees to stop Wilder quick and Wlad and Vitali. The list tbf is endless

I agree with him. Never took to him tbh, but h2h, everyone at their best, LL I believe would be the last man standing.. He massacres Foreman imo, decisions Ali, Vitali, stops Wlad, keeps Tyson at range for a ud, stops Joshua when he feels like it
