The more i see plans like this the more i hope Povetkin spoils the party. That'll leave Eddie's plans in a right mess, or as working class east end boy Eddie would put it a right Elliot Ness.
I'm not very enthusiastic about an AJ Whyte rematch. But as I had Chisora beating Whyte by a couple of rounds last time they squared up, i'm intrigued to see those two go at it again.
Its a big money fight for Matchroom. Nothing more needs to be said tbh... Funny thing is Whyte is probs getting more than Wilder because he doesn't mind being Eddies *****.. Same with Parker...
So says Hearn. Boxing goes beyond what he just showcases. There are other legitimate heavyweight threats than just those signed to Matchroom. I like Whyte, he is wrecking ball with legitimate power if you try and exchange with him. I just can’t see Joshua being naive and allowing himself to be drawn into a shootout with him. Whyte has improved since that defeat, but so as AJ. He’s a level up.
I am disappointed the AJ Vs Wilder fight hasn't happened and will very disappointed if it doesn't happen in April. But.. Whyte isn't a bad opponent for Joshua if Wilder doesn't happen. In his last 5 fights Whyte has beaten Chisora, Tann, Helenius, Browne and Parker. Now while I will agree that isn't spectacular, it is decent enough and fighters get title shots for far less work. I believe Whyte deserves a title shot at either AJ or Wilder, Whyte is the WBC number 1 and if Wilder won't fight him then AJ will, an all British world title fight and on the other side of things it will do solid numbers and sell well. I am not over the moon and jumping around with excitement but I'm absolutely fine with it.
Has nobody been paying attention? This has been Eddie's plan since the first fight. He was absolutely blown away by the 400k PPV buys that fight done, and hasn't let the rematch out of his head since. He's literally mentioned it in some capacity in every interview he's done in that time. It's a huge money spinner for matchroom, but it doesn't do much for the sport IMO. It's clear McCracken doesn't want anything to do with Wilder for now. AJ is still very raw, McCracken knows that and wants AJ to have as many fights as possible before facing Deontay. I'm sure McCracken is delighted with the Wilder/Fury situation, which could lead to two or even three fights between those two. Meanwhile he can improve AJ, who despite what many people think, needs to improve a lot before facing Wilder or Fury. However, if Fury and Wilder have two or three fights which I envisage. The AJ numbers will begin to deteriorate as he easily knocks over predictably inferior fighters.
