Not long after that he was medaling at the Olympics.
10 years later that 21 year boxing novice former basketball player is heavyweight champ and is still undefeated.

I mean Wilder today compared to that kid who recently took up the sport are two prolifically different individuals. Wilder was in Sheffield, England a week before the Povetkin fight. As Soon as the drugs tests thing was revealed.. Wilder had a choice . he could have still fought Povetkin and earned millions. But he was obviously not confident of victory and the Romanov loss in Russia traumatized him, because he couldn't get back to the USA faster! He probably had a party that night! he got extremely lucky.. he'd be nobody like Charles Martin now had he faced Povetkin.
