    I often ask myself.... how did Spinks manage to KO Taangstad but lose to Mike Tyson???? It defies all logic!!

    You had to think Taangstad was ready for the big time after squeaking out a decision 8 round decision to Alfredo Evagilista 9 months earlier, then very narrowly beating a guy who was 7-3-2 by 1 point on all 3 cards!

    Yes, it was so unlike Don King to promote a farce.

    I haven't watched this fight for a long time, but I believe Tangstad actually had a good first round lol.

    Spinks was a gamer and deserved an easy one. Cooney and the Holmes rematch were gutsy, even if a lot of folks think Holmes won.

    It's interesting to note that Douglas fought a draw with Taangstad while Spinks stopped him.

    Not really when you consider Spinks had two shot knees by the time he fought Tyson. Spink's knees were bad even going into the 1st Holmes fight, but by 1988 they were completely shot. Also, in 1986 Spinks was active going into the Tangstad fight and was in excellent condition at 201 lbs. In 1988 against Tyson Spinks was coming off a one year layoff and clearly wasn't training much due to his knees and his conditioning was awful. Spinks came in at a career high 212.

    Yeah, I think Jake was being a little bit sarcastic. Tangstaad, Was a bit of a milk run. When looking for an easy defense it might be a good practice to start with those from countries in which boxing is illegal.

    I know Tucker was his mandatory, but he was offered only half a million dollars to fight Tucker while on the other hand he was offered 4 million dollars to fight Cooney.

    Well you have to remember that fighting is how these men make their living. It's not always about glory and honor. Also the fact that you can't do that until you're 65 like a desk job and every fight can potentially be a career ender.

    Money talks, bull**** walks. It certainly would have been better for Spinks legacy, particularly as a heavyweight, if he had fought and beat one of the above mentioned, but it would not have been good for his bank account.

    Before the Tyson/Tucker fight the announcer was talking and mentioned that someone had asked Tucker a few days prior "Are you still fighting?" Which means that Tucker wasn't a name the general public knew too much about. Cooney was more of a popular fighter from a public perspective and more people would have paid to see a Spinks/Cooney fight than a Spinks/Tucker fight, hence the higher amount of money Spinks got for fighting Cooney.
