"Jabbed the **** out", for the less savvy among you - knocked out by a jab. I'll start off the list: Alexander Dimitrenko, by Kubrat Pulev. May 2012 Lucian Bot, by Adil Atmari. August 2012* Jameel McCline, by Magomed Abdusalamov**. September 2012 Alexander Ustinov, by Kubrat Pulev. September 2012 Hector Saldivia, by Kell Brook. October 2012 Patrick Majewski, by Curtis Stevens. January 2014 Cedric Agnew, by Sergey Kovalev. March 2014 Kris Carslaw, by Liam Williams. December 2015 Ezequiel Maderna, by Artur Beterbiev. June 2016 Julian Williams, by Jermall Charlo***. December 2016 Agus Kustiawan, by Kittithat Ungsrivongs. January 2018 Tewa Kiram, by Lucas Matthysse. January 2018 Nezir Altunkaya, by Denis Lebedev. September 2018 * formerly counted on BoxRec as an official pro bout, later rescinded. Part of the "Bigger's Better" heavyweight Euro tourney, which in retrospect has been deemed semipro, or at least unsanctioned and thus discounted from official records. ** this was a short right hand from the normally orthodox Abdusalamov, but he did morph his stance into southpaw before delivering this blow. *** the first knockdown in the second round was scored by a single jab, and the finishing salvo in the fourth was punctuated by one - incorrectly cited by some as being a left uppercut, as it was an underhanded jab due to Charlo's proximity & positioning relative to J-Rock, but a jab nonetheless. That is one dirty - one might say filthy - baker's dozen. I know there are more. Let's build up this HOS. (that is, Hall of Shame - for the unimaginative among you) And of course there are countless examples of boxers dropped by jabs (Rigondeaux by Cordoba; Pacquiao by Hussein; Clottey by Cotto; Frampton by González; Toney by Peter, etc) - feel free to name check those too, but we will keep the Master List purely restricted to contests stopped on a jab (be it a 10-count kayo or a quit job, so long as the final punch landed and pivotal moment leading to the stoppage outcome was in fact a jab)
National hall of shame rankings, from the list so far: (# of pro boxers JTFO) United States - 3 (McCline, Agnew, Williams) Russia - 2 (Dimitrenko, Ustinov) Argentina - 2 (Saldivia, Maderna) Poland - 1 (Majewski) Thailand - 1 (Kiram) Indonesia - 1 (Kustiawan) Turkey - 1 (Altunkaya) Romania - 1 (Bot) UK - 1 (Carslaw)
Oh hell yeah. Far more than just Dimi & Ustinov have been dropped or hurt by the Bulgarian's super-jab, but AFAIK they are the only two altogether succumbing to it and going down in the books as officially JTFO.
He certainly laid the groundwork for 90% of his victories (in the Manny Steward phase of his career, anyway) with the jab but I can't recall any that he finished with it? Usually he strung his victims along with jabs for however many rounds and then put the kibosh with the right cross. (or, very intermittently, as with Ray Austin, he'd dust off the left hook)
Wonder if that rumor about Sonny Liston knocking out an opponents front teeth wiuth a piston like jab was true? I think it was Wayne Bethea
Primo Carnera is said to have killed a man with a jab, IIRC? That's sort of a dramatic way of putting it, but technically he scored a KO with the jab, and the opponent died a short time later, as the story goes.
I'm still very sorely disappointed that Wladimir Klitschko vs. Kubrat Pulev resulted in zero jab knockdowns either way. It should've on paper set the all-time record for them in a single match.
Floyd Mayweather vs Jerry Cooper Knocked down by a jab to the body The jab was the constant weapon to the eventual stoppage, maybe a left hook in there as well.
Nice shout! For most of us that would be considered a very obscure match-up, but I'm not surprised you'd have every nanosecond of Floyd's career memorized.
