I've watched the McCallum fights numerous times and for me theres no controversy. Toney won the fight clean.

    Had him beating Peter.
Had the Johnson fight for toney by 1 point, Johnson just didn't do enough to "take it"

Had him beating McCallum due to hurting him so bad I have him a 10-8

Had him beating Rahman because his punches were cleaner.

    Yeah I'm a toney fan.

Would have to rewatch the rest

In my view Toney won all fights except maybe the Rahman and Tiberi fight. Against Rahman, the draw was fair.
The Tiberi fight, I never scored round by round.

Sosa fight- Toney by 4 points
Reggie Johnson- Toney by 3 points
Mc Callum- Toney by 2 points
Griffin I- Toney by 4 points
Griffin II- Toney by 2 points
    Thadzi- Toney by 2 points
Peter I- Toney by 3 points
    Oquendo- Toney by 2 points

The only one that I thought he lost was the Tiberi fight. As good and close as the McCallum trilogy was, I still think JT won all three.

JT earned it literally against McCallum. I 4got the Tiberi, which probably means I begrudgingly scored it for Tiberi..... & Griffin fight as well.

I scored it clean for JT over Peter by 2 rounds. 2nd fight I scored it Peter. He actually outboxed JT. Add on those shots to the dome.

His Rahman fight is one of the few times ever I was distracted. I couldn't believe how fat n sloppy Toney showed up. Just layed on the ropes hoping to counter. I may have scored it for Rahim, but I didn't watch it all. Too ashamed for Toney looking like a large melted milk dud. Xtra dark.

Tiberi beat him like a drum. How that decision was ever made boggles my mind.

Not only did that decision stink out the joint but it was bad for Toney as well.

Tiberi at that point was a nobody. He retired because of that decision. But the fight remains to be seen and its obvious Dave won by a long way. So, Toney in his prime got beaten by a nobody.

If Tiberi had not retired, I think he might have actually turned out to be a very useful fighter. A win over Toney at that time would have paved the way for him becoming a full-time boxer and potentially a top one. Losing to a future top - liner is different to losing to a nobody.

At his best, he was a throwback to the Archie Moore’s and Ezzard Charles’, fast counterpuncher, very fluid and well-timed and chosen combinations and he would literally fight anybody.

He’s one of my favourite fighters to watch when on his game. Some people don’t like his mouth and how classless he could be - that’s fair. On film, though, he was a skilled operator, just a shame about his discipline.

That depends. Do you need to make Toney look better or worse for the "versus" thread where the question comes up?

Haven't seen the Oquendo or Thadzi fight and can't remember if I've seen Griffin II.

But of the others I only think Toney lost to Tiberi and I think he beat Rahman. A draw with Mike was a good decision, but if someone edged it, it was probably Toney. I do believe McCallum quite clearly won the rematch, though.

I actually think the 1st Sam Peter fight was Toney's best performance. That fight showcased every positive atribute Toney possessed

I can't comment on the heavyweight fights James was dead to me by that time.

    I had him beating McCallum.
Losing to Reggie Johnson and Dave Tiberi. The Tibiri fight wasnt especially close.
Griffin winning both fights based on conditioning and workrste. James had gone Michael Moorer a bit at this stage of his career. (Don't throw any punches then complain about the decision.

Intesting, you say that Griffin won on workrate.Yet, Toney threw and landed more punches in both fights. That tells me a lot about your agenda.

Also, you are in absolute minority believing that Johnson deserved the decision. This was not a controversial decision at the time.
