3G UD. Much more tested at 160, not to mention, if someone if going to trouble 3G, it'll require movement. Or a HUGE punch. Winky has neither.
Good thread in theory, fun match to contemplate (in terms of it being a chess match; wouldn't be a FOTY candidate), but I feel the newer generation of fans lack perspective on Winky. He is either incorrectly pigeonholed as just a one handed one trick pony with A+ defense, at least straight A chin and probably A+ jab but little power and not too versatile...or he is incorrectly lauded as some master boxer on the basis of his stellar 14 month run consisting of his outpointing SSM twice over and his dismantling of Tito. Here's a good hard look at him when he was still ostensibly active, by a very solid analytical poster... https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/the-men-who-beat-winky.338709/
Good match up. Two of the most ducked middleweights in memory. Master defensive boxer vs master offensive boxer. Golovkin by stoppage
I'm a Wright fan and think he'd be a very stiff test for Golovkin. Wright was elite and at the very worst he loses a close decision like Jacobs. But from a styles perspective Winky struggled with constant pressure as in his close loss to Harry Simon, Wright sets a high pace but likes to pick his spots to attack, blocking shots and then rallying. Simon never relented he just kept coming wave after wave of attacks which kept Wright behind his near impregnable high guard and in doing so limited Wrights work rate. I think GGG is too strong has a jab that can match Wrights and will physically impose himself on the smaller Wright, constantly pressuring him and keeping him behind his high guard and win a close decision.
I had Winky beating a undefeated Taylor at MW, but Winky wasn't a MW. I voted with my heart and went with Winky, but I don't see even a great fighter like Winky Wright being able to beat GGG prime for prime at MW.
Doesn't matter if he is or not, Wright is a natural light middle, albeit a big one, he's the naturally smaller man.
In that case he's getting smashed. Golovkin breaks his shell or breaks his ribs. Either was he's getting smashed
Doubt that happens. Winky never got smashed his losses were all on points, all of them close during his prime. He'd be a stiff test for Golovkin. He loses to prime Golovkin on points, he probably beats current faded Golovkin.
He beats no version of Golovkin. No smaller man beats Golovkin. Smaller men - no matter how good - get eaten alive by GGG. Winky is no exception
this is a tough call for 3G, Winky has ATG/HOF wins, wheras Golvkin has yet to notch his first elite win. WW might be too much.
