Could Smith smash Morrison in the same way as he did Witherspoon or catch him as he did Bruno ? Or can Tommy pull off a spectacular ko over Bone crusher?
If Morrison could stay on his toes like he did against GF, he could out hustle Smith. However, if he tried to trade with the Bonecrusher to get his respect, he may well get caught with one............
Smith lasted far longer against a prime Tyson than Morrison would of and he hurt Tyson in the last round, if he could hit a great defensive fighter like Mike ten he would find Tommy a lot easier to hit, I feel it would go like the Bruno fight.
I could see Morrison winning the early rnds with his fast attacks pining smith against the ropes .I dont think Morrison could stop smith Bonecrusher had a very good chin and was mentally tough .As Tommy starts to slow Smith starts taking him apart knocking him out in about seven rnds.He would then look at the tv cameras and do that eye thing he used to do!
Prime Bonecrusher Smith was sometimes very good. He's about 2" taller than Tommy and has a 6" reach advantage. They would both come in around 225-230 solid Lbs. Smith lost his pro debut by KO to James Broad. He put together a string of wins including a late round KO over Frank Bruno. He was stopped in the 12th round by Larry Holmes in 1984 (for the Lineal HW title and IBF belt). He lost his next fight to Tony Tubbs, L10. He won a SD over Jose Ribalta but then lost back to back decisions to Tim Witherspoon and Marvis Frazier. The loss to Witherspoon was very much one-sided. He won his next 4 fights including 1st round KOs over Mike Weaver and Tim Witherspoon (for the WBA belt). He also beat Jesse Ferguson and David Bey by decision. He lost his next fight and the WBA belt to Mike Tyson, L12. He managed to last the distance vs. Tyson by holding a lot... so much that he earned the nickname Boneclutcher. Smith was mainly used as a stepping stone after this and suffered KO losses to Razor Ruddock (Smith was out for several minutes), Michael Moorer, and Brian Nielsen among others. Morrison won his first 28 pro bouts including 1sr round KOs over faded versions of James Tillis and Pinklon Thomas. He lost his 29th fight to Ray Mercer, LKOby5. Morrison fought very well prior to the stoppage and hit Mercer with every punch in his arsenal. Mercer sucked it all up and hurt Tommy late in the 4th round with a good shot. Mercer jumped on Tommy in the 5th and Tommy never recovered. Tommy won his next 10 including KO wins over Wimpy Halstead, Joe Hipp, and Carl The Truth Williams. He also won the vacant WBO belt with a decision win over George Foreman. An over confident Morrison was stopped in the 1st round (3 knockdown rule) vs. Michael Bentt. He went undefeated in his next 8 fights including a KO win over Razor Ruddock. He lost his next fight to a prime Lennox Lewis and then tested positive for HIV. Both men were strong and had good power. Morrison had the better left hook. Morrison was quicker. Morrison thought he could trade with Mercer and knock Mercer out... a lot of people agreed with him at the time. Mercer's chin had yet to reach legendary status, his win over Morrison helped create that legend. Morrison overlooked Bentt. Morrison lost to an all-time great in Lewis. Morrison was able to come back after being hurt in several fights... Hipp, Williams, and Ruddock. He won't overlook Smith and he will know he can't stand and trade with Smith. Smith ain't Lennox Lewis. This is a Morrison who has already been in with Mercer and learned a few things. I like Morrison in this one. I do think Smith would drop him but I think Morrison would get up, take over the fight, and eventually stop Smith.
Prime Bonecrusher stops Morrison late. His chin was iron and would withstand anything Tommy threw, but like in the Bruno fight, he would have to play a game of catchup.
