Are you sure they aren't just placeholders for a potential date/event? There hasn't been much official word on the topic.... hearn and matchroom always have pressers and promotional announcement going on like clockwork. Sorry if us groupies are a little impatient.
They're going to announce it via a treasure hunt. Different pieces of the press release will be hidden in promotional chocolate bar wrappers and everyone that finds one will be flown to Vegas for the fight.
what aren't placeholders for potential date/events? BT Sport website literally says "The blockbuster bout on Saturday September 15th will launch our brand new pay-per-view channel, BT Sport Box Office HD, with Deontay Wilder vs Tyson Fury and Josh Warrington vs Carl Frampton to come later this year."
I think it's legit to raise questions, though. When the fight was announced, they talked of a November fight date. It's getting on a month later and still no developments or an announcement that it won't be in November but is still happening at a later date. Assuming, it's still pencilled in for November, that's a maximum of 11 weeks or so from today. Eleven weeks to finalise the contract, find a venue, set a date, publicise the event and carry out a full training camp. And that's assuming the fight will be staged in the very last week of the month. We all know enough about boxing match-making to sense something is not right with this deal as it stands...
That does sound familiar.... Well Frank Warren recently described himself as an innovator and not a survivor on British boxing promoter scene
Well that is just non-specific fluff that marketing writers put up when an actual date has not been confirmed.. I've written for marketing before. How long ago was Joshua-Povetkin announced? And now how close are we to November...
it is, i agree, but this is the 2nd thread in 3 days, and everything somehow is linked back to Hearn & Matchroom. According to PBC, it will be November
It will happen early December. Announcement this week or next week. Microwave society, everybody got to have everything right now. More publicity if they announce Canelo-GGG week (with all the boxing press in Vegas) or next week (to obliterate what little word of AJ-Povetkin might otherwise reach the USA shores ... which so far has been zilch). Best strategy would be to announce today or tomorrow and have Wilder and Fury on tour all next week in the USA and UK. Remember, Hearn said AJ-Povetkin had to be signed on order from the WBA “within 24 hours) and actually announced it more than a month later. Patience, grasshoppers.
Exactly. It's a perfectly reasonable question to ask where and when the fight is at this late stage. Apparently asking the question makes you a bumboy or a hater, rather just a curious fight fan. Some people...
you really think all these entities are going to say a fight is happening? promoters & networks all advertising a fight that isn't going to happen? Let's go off the assumption that people are doubting this fight will happen because they don't trust/believe in Warren, i doubt Al Haymon and his team are stupid enough to say a fight is happening in November and then not do it.
I fully agree with you... I'm simply wondering why no official date has been announced, it's been some time... the fighters, the promoters, the managers all need a date to work towards. A lot of operational management takes place, as well as minimizing financial losses by giving punters enough time to prepare and organise tickets/ accommodation etc. etc.
