Who have you got and in what order? Some names for consideration: Johnny Dundee, Tod Morgan, Kid Chocolate, Henry Armstrong, Sandy Saddler, Flash Elorde, Kuniaki Shibata, Ben Vilaflor, Alfredo Escalera, Samuel Serrano, Alexis Arguello, Bobby Chacon, Hector Camacho, Julio Cesar Chavez, Azumah Nelson, Brian Mitchell, Rocky Lockridge, Tony Lopez, Genaro Hernandez, Arturo Gatti, Floyd Mayweather, Diego Corrales, Joel Casamayor, Acelino Freitas, Marco Antonio Barrera, Erik Morales, Juan Manuel Marquez, Manny Pacquiao.
Do you feel Nazeem Hamed could have moved up to super feather and done well vs a mid 90`s Nelson or a prime verson of some of the other fighters here?
Hamed had the ability but not the dedication in the end. I think he would have struggled with Nelson but he might have beaten him just because Nelson was old by then. But I don't see him beating anyone else on the list. Anyway, who are your top 10 super featherweights?
Johnny Dundee Tod Morgan Kid Chocolate Henry Armstrong To be added to the names on the list for consideration.
Thanks man! Have added Johnny Dundee and Tod Morgan - good shouts both. Kid Chocolate was already on there. Question about Armstrong - obviously one of the greatest between 126 and 135+ pounds ever - but should he be included as a super featherweight when he never contested the title back in the 30s?
Depends what you are rating on - H2H, Resume or a blend. When i see "Greatest" mentioned i always figure the list to be mostly about resume.
Me too. I feel they should also have competed in the division rather than just being the same weight at one point. The super featherweights/junior lightweights back in the 30s wasn't as clear a weight division as featherweight or lightweight so the way I was judging it was whether a fighter had fought for or won the title.
While I believe you don't have an issue with it, I'll address the question about Armstrong. Well, when he was weighing at or near 130, he was defeating the likes of Chalky Wright, Frankie Klick, Benny Bass, and Baby Arizmendi. Even though the division wasn't active, he was quite clearly the top 130lb fighter in the world at the time. Plus, if Ezzard Charles gets credit for being the top LH of all time, Armstrong should be very much in the discussion at super feather.
If you want to make a 32 man tournament out of it, then add Kuniaki Shibata, Boza Edwards, Bazooka Limon, Roger Mayweather, Jesse James Leija and Lomachenko.
