Hrgovic rates #18 at box rec...already after 6 fights. The record of his last 5 opponents was 59-7-1. Those who followed him in the amateurs know he dominated the very pro like world series of boxing, and was robbed in his semi final match with Yoka, clearing winning 2-1. I think he would beat Wilder right now. At age 26, with a new trainer he's still developing, but he's got a bedrock foundation to build upon. He did not look like Vitali Klitshcko until the last fight. I don't think many could replicate that style, as Vitali had an unusually good punch anticipation and defense. We shall see how he develops. He's got both inside and outside skills, and combinations. Very fast feet, a granite like chin, and enough power to stop those in the top ten today. I'd like to see him fight 5 more times, then target someone to move him into Ring Magazine's top ten. If an early title fight vs. Charr or Wilder happens, I'd take it in late 2019.
Outside of Joshua, and a very old Povetkin, there isn't much depth at all. Maybe Fury can come back, and Whyte belongs in the top 6. Wilder I think will take the count once he faces someone in the top ten in his prime. Post Klitschko, the division is a mess. I do however believe there are several up and comers better in terms of ability and upside than half of what we see in the top ten today
I love how these same hipsters that claim the godawful CW division is one of the best in boxing **** all over HW. HW is stacked right now, one of the best and most exciting divisions in boxing.
The HW division is extremely top heavy and not stacked at all when you consider that garbage fighters like Breazeale and Kownacki are listed in the top 10 by Ring Magazine. But in 2-3 years the division will look good with all the upcoming prospects who have actual ability and amateur pedigree. 1. Anthony Joshua 2. Deontay Wilder 3. Dillian Whyte 4. Joseph Parker 5. Filip Hrgovic 6. Joe Joyce 7. Oleksandr Usyk 8. Tyson Fury 9. Tony Yoka 10. Ivan Dychko 11. Efe Ajagba 12. Vlad Sirenko 13. Daniel Dubois 14. Nathan Gorman 15. Jarrell Miller That top 15 in no particular order would look very good, the HW division is not stacked at the moment but imo it will be stacked in 2-3 years.
For sure, the prospects looks pretty good so far. Joshua is good, but that's where I draw the line. And that says an awful lot about the scene right now IMO
As soon as he's exposed I think Wilder is out of the top ten for good. Parker to me is done for, no stamina and lacking a pair. 2 - 3 years from now will have a very different top ten.
I'm a big Wilder fan but i'm aware of his obvious flaws, i think his power will be enough for him to stay a big player for the next couple of years, Parker needs to improve on a lot of things but he is still young and there is hope for him, unlike some other guys he has some talent. I'm definitely looking forward to the prospects, especially Hrgovic and Joyce, i was already a fan of both when they were amateurs.
Cool post ... and maybe Arslanbek Makhmudov, Kean, Teslenko, Ugonoh, Martin Bakole, Dempsey McKean, Goodall, Hughie Fury maybe, even Willis Meehan (if he gets his act together) will be knocking on the door of the top 15/top 10 by then, and some post-Tokyo 2020 amateurs looking to turn pro as well. I reckon Joshua and Wilder should make their fights sooner rather than later because there's probably going be quite a lot of younger fighters hitting their primes competing for belt shots soon, as opposed to the past prime older veterans who have been challenging for the belts in recent times.
I get a similar sort of vibe from Hrgovic as I do from Usyk ... in that, with Usyk at least ... he's not going to come into any fight out of shape, he's not going to be fighting modest opposition twice a year or have long lay-offs for no reason, he's going to train intensely and formulate strategies to win rather than go the distance ... and if he loses a fight he's going do what-ever it takes to be back there again 8 months later (with even more determination). I don't think Ortiz had that kind of mindset, and I'm pretty certain Bermane Stiverne didn't have it.

We haven't established what you have to say if you lose. How about " HWs are inherently better and the lower divisions are just there to make small people feel better about themselves"?
