Big Respect for Tony Bellew

Curious, how many buys do we reckon this will do?? Whyte Chisora ii does 500k up to 1m apparently (even with another quality fight cited on the same day).

 

He coulda chased a Fury/AJ fight.. fake beef and sell out and do numbers for more money. This is for his legacy. Why you think he wants it at CW, so he can be undisputed champ

 

After Haye I called for Bellew to fight Parker, I think even now Bellew beats Parker.

 

Be interesting, the casuals will have no idea who Usyk is..

I think it's be a good fight and Parker wouldn't have a significant size advantage that your Klitschko, Joshua etc would.

Also I've never been high on Parker.....lovely bloke but average fighter.

 

I will wait to see the manner of his performance before I give him any credit for facing Usyk.
I will also not say another word about Bellew either until after the fight, other than good luck.

Yeah, he deserves respect, but literally any pro boxer in the game would accept the same fight.

The ultimate goal of every boxer has to be to fight for all four world title belts and get a few million whilst doing it, especially against a guy who isn’t a concussive puncher.

Good luck to him though, and I’ll definitely be in the stadium, pumped for this fight.

My prediction is that Bellew will get a KD, but I think Usyk takes it on points handily in the end.

Yeah. Tony would have a solid chance but Parker has a good chin, good movement and can bang. Also he’d outweigh Tony by about 20lbs. Think Parker would be all wrong for him. Can’t see Bellew outboxing Parker at all.

 

Hard to say, I don't think this would put him ahead of Wilde or Fitzsimmons. I could put him up there with Lennox and Calzaghe, but they'd still be ahead. I think it's put him ahead of Froch, maybe not Naseem Hamed. Maybe it'd put him ahead of Hatton if Usyk goes on to do well. Turpin probably ought to be ahead. Usyk is a good win, but it isn't Sugar Ray Robinson

Ted Kid Lewis would probably be ahead, but honestly, I don't know nearly enough about him or a lot of other early British boxers. Owen Moran might have to be ahead, don't really know enough about him either TBH, but he fought for titles from 102Ibs up to Lightweight, drew with Abe Attell, and KOed a past it Battling Nelson (you can watch some of that, he looks very good). There's the likes of Len Harvey (who had a very solid career fighting in every weight class), Freddie Welsh was Lightweight champion and looks to have a very solid record, but I really don't know enough about him. Having a look on boxrec there's Nel Tarleton, Peter Kane, Jim Driscoll, Benny Lynch, and some others that I honestly know nothing about, hopefully some others do.

Going way back Charlie Mitchell was very good, being the top challenger to Sullivan for a while, despite being less than a middleweight, Jack Burke from around that time too. Ted Pritchard from a bit later was well regarded too, but I don't think he ought to be ranked that highly, as he lost when he stepped up against Jim Hall and Frank Craig. Then if we go further back do we count bareknuckle guys? I think Jem Mace ought to rank pretty highly, and maybe so should earlier guys like Tom Sayers, Tom Cribb and Daniel Mendoza.

Even with that I've probably missed some. Been a lot of good British boxers.

Bellew had several torrid years grinding his way up the ladder and prior to the Haye fight everyone was saying he was going to get brutally ****ed up by Haye (myself included)

The Haye fight looked like suicide compared to the tournament where he was more likely to lose a UD than get stretchered out (which seemed a real possibility pre fight)

So he took a fight with one of the hardest punchers in the division above him for more money and somehow thats worthy of derision? Why?

Now he's taking on a "hardcore darling" who nobody is giving him amy chamce once again and he's earned the chance by building his name and winning about 4-5 fights when he was an underdog and people STILL finding creative ways to discredit him.

Again, personality wise I think hes a ****

But in terms of boxing if you can't respect what he's done you are no real fan of the sport

We seem to keep going over the same old ground on this forum when Tony Bellew comes up. I think I have been on record saying that if he activates his emiritus status as he said he would then I would have to show him respect for that.

Maybe a small part of him feels he owes it to the boxing community after the circus of his last two fights. I'm not a Bellew fan but this is a great spectacle for British boxing. We have had Spence, Golovkin, Rigondeaux and Klitschko over in the last 2/3 years and now Usyk in a fight which is the pick of the bunch.

Great times for this 'golden era' of British Boxing.
