Very dated technology. Even ITV box office was available on PS4's, tablets and mobile devices etc. for a one off payment.
I'm not saying I was one of these people but I remember years ago on here when PPV started to become a little more regular there were quite a few posters who called this, they pretty much nailed how this would end up. They were absolutely slaughtered, they got all that "its only the price of a round of drinks" and they were personally slaughtered for being either "poor" or "tight". These posters maintained their stances and told everybody that I f you keep buying them they will become even more frequent and well.. here we are, nearly any fight worth watching is PPV now. So why I'm still really irritated by some of the fights I have to pay extra for because I have all the Sky Sports channel and the BT Sports channels and access to others I can't really say I'm surprised and I now feel partly responsible because over the years I have bought nearly every PPV event, I say I'm not going to and then cave in, so I do blame myself for this shower of turd we have now. They won't do it but I believe they should have a tier system, like they do for football matches. So let's says it's a system where you have A, B, C graded fights, A £20, B £15 and C £10, I could maybe suffer something like that. Even better, you could buy individual fights, surely the technology is there for that? So you pay £5-7.50 a fight or £20 for the entire event. So for example I buy the AJ fight, my stream starts on my TV, laptop, device before the ring walks and goes off afterward the they announce the result to the crowd or after any interview. There are plenty of times I've bought a PPV for the chief support fight instead of the main event and the rest of the rubbish. Hearn constantly says he is looking forward and looking towards the future.. different platforms and ways to transform boxing and ways to sell fights and events well Mr Hearn there is an idea, I believe this would weed out fighters who get on TV as filler with no real fanbase and no justification to be on a PPV event. Surely they would have to make cards better to sell them.
That’s pretty much how I see it. Although I did select Wilder v Fury too. Canelo and Golovkin are special talents but at 5am how many of the British public are going to get up and pay to watch it? Only way I’m watching it is if I go out and I’m still awake.
Depends on the undercards. Looking at the list its quite difficult to pick ones, id say GGG v Canelo, Fury v Wilder. Groves v Smith is possible but they usually have hardly any undercards so its more of a no. The rest id say no.
Quality of undercard is of significant importance to me. I don't mind paying for a full night's entertainment.
The only one I think I'll definately pay for without knowing the undercard (which I'd presume for most will be shite anyway) is Groves v Smith. World Title fight between the top closely matched guys in their division. The same can be said for Fury v Wilder and GGG v Canelo but they will be on at 4-5am so will depend on whether I have anything else on that weekend and can be arsed staying up. Usyk v Bellew I might try and get tickets for though.
Thing is with me if I plan to stay up till 5am I usually fail, but if I don't intend to then I can drink till 6!
Canelo v GGG nah, seen it before, boring Joshua v Povetkin i would but kinda reluctantly.. not that arsed Groves v Smith nah, not interested Wilder v Fury defo, will be a great watch Khan v Brook erm nah, not that bothered Warrington v Frampton nope, no interest at all Chisora v Whyte yes, always interesting with these 2 None probably not if no one is fighting Usyk v Bellew defo, come on bomber
If these 'events' do good numbers on PPV then I suspect they'll start putting the price up gradually, probably start with AJ fights, if there's people out there dumb enough to buy some of those 'events' then they'll be dumb enough to pay an even more inflated fee - that's what Frank and Eddie are likely thinking.
No single fight is worth £20. I don't believe that even a stacked card is worth £20, at most I'd pay £15 for two big fights with some good undercard fights thrown in. £20 for one fight which could end in the first round is madness.
I can see a price of £25-30 if Joshua fights the winner of Fury/Wilder. The break even point for the PPVs is very low depending on the gate/sponsorship (a Sky card around 100-150k buys)- I’m starting to get the impression that Sky are pushing PPV as a way of making up capital for the acquisition/renewal of other sports contracts. Who would pick up Mayweather/Pacquiao II if it happened in December? Both major outlets have at least two PPV cards around that time.
