I just tried digging up some Hikal vs. Golovkin video but came away empty-handed (only Hikal footage I could scrounge up was a close loss to Ismayl Sillakh on YouTube) ...but did come upon an old Sports Illustrated article claiming that Golovkin was robbed against Hikal...although I've seen other sources that merely call it a "sensational upset" with no mention of controversy. Really wish there was video to see for ourselves. Maybe out there somewhere...

I was even going to make a cheeky thread entitled "Mohamed Hikal: STILL the last man to clearly defeat GGG" but the conflicting reports have given me pause. I don't take SI as the gospel or anything, but still..

Yep, Golovkin used Canelo's tactics from the first fight against him. People criticized GGG as a come forward one dimensional fighter last time, so this time he did all the **** that Canelo did, as well as Canelo did it and Canelo couldn't do what GGG did from the first fight. He couldn't boss Golovkin around and having him running the ropes all night. Fighting as he did this time, showing his old amateur skills instead of his newer crowd pleasing Mexican style, showed that Golovkin was the better more rounded boxer.

I had it that way for Golovkin. He outworked Canelo noticeably in 8 of the rounds. Any judge giving Canelo the 12th needs to be investigated.

I liked that Canelo actually worked on his stamina, and came forward most of the fight, but coming forward while getting outpunched, and outlanded doesn't mean ****. It shouldn't win you rounds, if you are getting out jabbed and out landed most of the time.

1 and 12 were two toss up rounds. I had the 5th to Golovkin but with a ? mark. So 1, 9, 10, 11, 12 Golovkin would equal a fine 7-5 Canelo score. Canelo even more than the first one showed he was the better overall fighter. But Golovkin punished him badly late and forced him to slow. I will have to rewatch but right now unlike the first fight I cannot give Golovkin 7 rounds.

So a guy throwning and landing 1 punch a round can earn it over a guy landing 99 and missing 1?

    Terrific logic this.

    What next?
Double points for being a ginger?

Ironically they both tried "wearing each other's shoes" and it ended up working for both of them.

Hmmm don’t look good, said this before the first fight that can you think of any other fight in history where one side thinks they need a KO to win?
500 fights between those two and neither been down lol.

GGG blocked most of those with his elbows and arms. You know what, I forgot the uppercuts that GGG landed. He landed dozens of those that sent Canelo's head flying backwards.

GGG won the fight by landing more. If Canelo's mostly blocked body shots are all you got, you don't have much.

I'll remember that next time you try kissing my or CST's ass with that same line in a fight where you happen to agree with our scoring but not Pinoy's.

    To an extent.....

GGG probably outlanded Canelo by a similar amount in both fights.

Given how the judges scored the first fight for 'Boxing ability', it's a joke they've scored this for nothing other than aggression.

Again CONTEXT, a guy landing 99 punches has clearly out landed the other in such a way that they probably would have had a 10-8 round, if not a stoppage. a 99% accuracy rating over 100 punches is much better than a 100% rate over 1 punch.

And especially considering one judge tonight scored it for Golovkin last time, and the other two are guys that have given shutouts to Golovkin in fights where their peers have scored at least a round or two for his opponents.
