But "Mexican style" doe. Canelo was there to get knocked or knock GGG out. Isn't that what they wanted.
Sure, maybe they wanted to surprise and catch Clenelo off guard with a different approach. It worked on my card. It worked on a number of cards I read. It doesn’t matter. Clenelo won and is the cash cow and will absolutely be treated and protected as such.
3G was definitely doing a lot of backing up, and not in a strategic way. This is one of those fights that was just odd to me. 3G looked to be in constant trouble from the 5th on, but he was still landing shots, shots that looked very weak for him, but they were landing a lot more often than Canelo’s punches. Canelo seldom looked in trouble, but seemed to have a tough time taking adavantage of GGG’s shortcomings, aside from taking shots well. I’ve got to watch this one again without my brain being in “casual fan” mode.
GGG was just fighting backing up most of the fight. I don't recall him getting cornered or in trouble. It was certainly strategic enough to allow GGG to significantly outland Canelo. I do recall once or twice late when Canelo got legitimately rocked. Oscar got the two results he wanted to maximize $$$.
