Fairly vague and unfair categories. I'd give it a 7, which doesn't at all fit the (10) bracket, but it definitely wasn't a 6 (4).
I think this fight was a 9 at best. It had the big names, lots of belts, and a whole bunch of talent. What kept it from being a 10 is that there was too many lulls in the action. I hate when a fighter talks about toe to toe and then ends up running on fight night.
8 -two highly skilled guys that match up well, barely a clinch. Real good fight. Lacked a little drama and is not an all time classic. One guy post prime another guy prime but great scrap
One of the best fights I've seen, I was sitting at the edge of my seat the entire fight. Seldom I watch a fight like that totally concentrated on what is going on. Much of the time when I'm watching boxing, it's a chill kind of affair but here I was absolutely zoned in every second of the fight. Definitely one of my favourites. Unfortunately soured by the **** result. I'd give it a 10/10 just for the fight. But the result ruins it somewhat, so now it's 8/10 for me.
6. Honestly. GGG could have made it a great fight. Should have stood in the pocket and slugged it out like he promised. Watching GGG run around while Canelo chased him down and smashed his body wasn't that interesting.
I can't compare many fights since Vazquez-Marquez 3 to tonight's fight. As fun a night as watching boxing gets for me. More consistent action and more significant shifts in momentum than the first one. The change in style by Canelo gave it drama too of course. I actually thought late Canelo wanted to shift to countering a slowing GGG, but GGG didn't cooperate and gave Canelo hell, and they had to go at each other the last couple rounds. A war, but high class war. 9.5 on my Richter scale.
When a fight becomes overshadowed by the result, it's a weak fight. The vast majority of pundits, ex pros and broadcasters had a similar result to the first fight. Competitive, but a clear winner.
