C'mon man. At his prime, Chavez had victories over A-type fighters like Camacho, Rosario, Ramirez, Taylor, etc. Not even comparable. And I"m in no way trying to **** on GGG, just trying to stay objective here.
Are there any fights that GGG ducked? If not then why blame him for having a weak resume then? Canelo's resume is not spectacular either, he lost to Floyd and then deliberately cherrypicked and chose to fight GGG when GGG was on the slide.
Your right he probably does have a better record. So where do you rate GGG world level but not elite ? Likewise for Canelo ?
SMH Canelo went toe to toe(as Sanchez and GGG asked) and legitimately beat GGG at his game. If you can't properly credit him for that then you're not really a boxing fan but a mere groupie.
36 is old for a pressure fighter. There are a few exceptions down the years, but pressure fighters are usually in big decline by 33-34. It is usually the first of the main boxing styles to show decline, as it requires the most physical attributes.
You can't get A-type wins if guys won't fight you. The only guy I can think of who GGG could have fought at all, at one time, was Ward. And maybe he should have. But people just did not want to fight GGG. Canelo waited until after the Brook fight, I think. GGG at 32-33 would dismantle Canelo. He would. And Canelo is a good fighter.
I think the first half of the fight he absolutely did that to EVERYONE’S surprise (even you). Then the second half kicked in and GGG dominated.
Honestly I'm not sure where GGG stand at this point. Maybe he's shot, maybe he just had an off-night against one of the best fighters in the world. Only his next fight will tell us where he is.
History will remember Canelo as a drug cheater and being protected like a sugar baby by Golden Boys and HBO.
GGG clearly had a better second half but by no means was it a domination. And YES, I was surprised Canelo went toe to toe for the full 12, didn't think it was in his best interest. But he pulled it off and props to him.
Cenelo did well, GGG looks faded but still won (IMO), but the commentary was absolute terrible. " he's winning the story of the fight" What the fcuk does that mean. N gave credit to canelo all night for not doing much.
Yes, they are. An exception would be someone like Calzaghe (not a classic pressure fighter but a "workrate fighter"). He just had so much excess speed and ability that he even looked good at 36. Of course, he was fighting old guys then (Hopkins, Roy). But he did fight Kessler when he was nearly 36. GGG doesn't have "excess" attributes like Calazghe's speed. GGG needed all of his prime ability (especially stamina) to be "him."
It was more dominating than the first half was for Canelo. There were several rounds early that my group was divided on. The latter half, not so much.
Again, I've never blamed GGG for not getting the big fights in his prime but any objective observer has to question why fights vs fighters such as Lara and Ward(who both called him out) never took place. And fully disagree with your last statement. It's hard to judge how GGG would have done in his prime against A-type fighters when he never faced one.
