Do people understand Golovkin is 36/37 years old?

GGG's ability to control the ring and pressure his opponent into positions they do not want to be in, e.g against the ropes, is what gave GGG the position to really let his hands go and demonstrate that power.

Right now, he's only catching Canelo in the center of the ring, he lacks the work rate to consistenly ensure his feet are able to put him in the correct positions to make his punches count.

Tonight, when Canelo fatigued, GGG was able to get Canelo trapped on the ropes and hurt......
He actually succeeded in doing this far more in the first fight.

    exactly

He lacks the work rate and pressure aka stamina to actually keep the pace that's because of age

So... age was not the factor in this fight, but it was in the first fight?

Golovkin never had a high footwork rate. The 3 guys that did move a lot: Alvarez, Rosado and Jacobs, they all did so at nearly will.
And Golovkin cut them all off at the right opportunities.
Canelo did not move at all like he did in the first fight. He pressured Golovkin and forced him to fight off of the back foot.

Which is what made tonights performance so impressive.

    The puncher outboxed the boxer.

5 years ago when he Rosado lit him up like a Christmas tree. The same Rosado who could barely see due to his shitty skin.

I thought it became pretty obvious in the Jacobs fight that GGG is no longer capable of keeping his usual high pace for 12.

Go and watch the Brook fight too.....

He's giving up early rounds to pace himself, just like tonight.

He doesn't have the defensive skills of a guy like Floyd to make up for slowing down.

And the boxer outpunched the puncher, you're right though about Golovkin. He likes to have them up against the ropes before he lands his sickening body shots. Canelo is too good to fall for the trap and his superior handspeed and footwork enabled him to be the boss up close.

    Great post. Thanks.

    Says it all.

GGG is not close to what he once was. That's clear. It's a shame he had to wait so long to get big fights, but he's still had a good run and I'm happy for him even with these last two unfortunate outcomes.

I wouldn't say it was that 'Canelo was far too good'.....

If you're 28 years old and you don't have superior handspeed and footwork to a 36 year old, you're probably not getting in the ring in the first place.

That's what made GGG's performance impressive.

GGG showed a better ability to counter and avoid being out of position than Canelo did, fighting a similar way, in the first fight.

    Thanks.

Yeah it really is a shame. At least he earned nice big paydays from his last two fights even if he was very hard done by the judges.

The lack of common sense on these boards is mind boggling...these pieces of human **** just want people to fight until they are shells of the fighters they used to be...they'll troll for 10 years until a guy is past it and then when he finally loses a fight or looks to be slipping you get an "I told you so" or "He was exposed". What a bunch of idiots.
