Canelo has an ATG chin and would probably win a world title at 168

This guy would easily live with the punchers at 168 after going 24 rounds with G and all that happened was he was momentarily stunned a couple of times. It doesn't shock me with his thick chode neck and stocky, blocky, brick muscle body that he can absorb these big punches with ease.

Provided he is matched well Canelo could easily win a title at 168, he can just come in light and win against the right opponent with that hand speed.

I think all of GGG, Canelo, Jacobs and BJS could win titles at SMW where there is a dearth of talent (Paul Smith retiring didn't help lol). But the serious money is at MW atm.

He can definitely beat a chavez jr type.

But i dont think he can beat a world class slickster even at 160, he already struggled badly with trout and lara, and while he has improved defensively he hasnt fought a mover since khan, and that wont be good enough vs anyone slick with even half a chin at 160.
Canelo has been preparing for GGG for 2 years.
    Saunders would embarass him.
Jacobs would be a good fight

Agreed his chin is epic, Golovkin hit him with some truly brutal shots that had other guys look like they'd just got hit by a sledge hammer, but Canelo took em all. He didn't run this time either, was backing GGG up for most of the fight.

And yeah Canelo and Golovkin moving up to super middle would be like that scene in Oldboy in the corrider, Canelo and GGG walk through the supermiddle weight divison leaving nothing but bloodied bodies.

I'd back my guy Saunders to beat Canelo but I can definitely see a scenario where Canelo knocks him out. Saunders has an awesome chin too but deep down I can see it. Would most likely end in a Canelo robbery points win so I'm not going to get gassed if that fight is made in Las Vegas.

But what makes you think he can add the extra weight? He's only 5'9 and 168 might be little too much for his frame. He'd have a host of other problems with the added weight not to mention the reach disadvantaged of the 6 foot plus guys.

I don't think he needs to. Chris Eubank Jr was able to eat a full breakfast before he weighed in for the Groves fight, so he was probably in the ring at like 170-172lbs. Eubank Jr clearly lost but he was able to hang in their physically with Groves would was probably 180lbs in there. The point I'm making is that you don't need to be heavy at the weight.

And Canelo is very, very strong physically. Coming in light would help him retain his hand speed and movement. I qualified my statement by suggesting he'd need to be matched against the right opponent. Of course, match him with 6'4" Callum Smith and it's a different ball game. But match Canelo with the Degale who beat Truax in their world title rematch, and Canelo is clearly knocking Degale's ass out.

I think this is what GBP will do. They will bide their time and wait for the "right" 168 champion for Canelo to fight, possibly immediately at SMW without any warm-up fights at the weight.

Canelo made already 164 pounds against Chavez jr. and battered him to a pulp, the 4 additional pounds wouldn't be that much of a problem, the 168 pounds division is a wasteland, imo Canelo would clean that mediocre division out without too much problems.

I would rather want him to stay at middleweight and fight against Saunders, Jacobs and Derevyanchenko.

yes I tihnk he can win back his title in some form, and notch up 12 more defences to surpass hopkins. emember hopkins stuck around here till 40, no reason 3G cant adapt.

There's nothing at 168. Canelo doing well there would be no surprise.

Agree it's poor but a fully fit Groves v Canelo would be an incredibly tough fight for Canelo. That jab from Groves. of course there is zero demand or value in that fight so it would never happen but it's an example of a quality, very difficult fight out there at 168.
