So he fought Duran way past prime as a money grab, had a methodical fight, but knocks out Canelo despite his iron chin and ability to roll with punches?

Well at least he wasn't waiting for Duran to grow old as was mentioned before. But I already dealt with Hagler Duran in one of my previous posts, but I will repeat it. He didn't fight like Hagler in that fight. I don't know if if you have seen it, but if you have you would have seen Hagler fight in a rather cautious manner not indicative of his normal style, which that of an aggressive boxer puncher. When he was more aggressive, like in the 6th or towards the end of the fight, he was giving Duran fits and pounding him. Hagler knocked out Tommy in 3, who knocked Duran out in 2? I believe that is more reflective of where we are at between these fellows as that's proof of how styles make fights. As far as Hagler and Canelo are concerned, there would have been no such caution on Hagler's part against him. And I would have bet the house on the Hagler say, of the Sibson fight, knocking out Canelo.

Has any other middleweight who accomplished as little as Mugabi did at 160 ever received as much reverence in head-to-head matchups?

All of that crop at middleweight, really - John D Jackson, Quincy Taylor, Steve Collins, all had fleeting success and
You could even include Julian Jackson Gerald McClellan, in that bunch too.

Hearns, Leonard and Duran would pose the biggest challenges.

If Hearns comes out blazing, I think he also goes out blazing. Canelo has a fantastic chin, top counter punching abilities and good power. Tommy could outbox him, but doesn't win a slugfest.

Duran was still a very good and clever counter puncher in 1983, but he would be right in the centre of the ring for Canelo to find. I think Canelo's youth, speed and size would give him a win.

Leonard could really have frustrated Canelo, though. Just the type of opponent Canelo hates. His performances against Floyd, Trout and Lara don't really fill me with confidence about his chances in this one.

at least 4 losses for Canelo, the top elite layer may be beyond him.

Canelo hasn't demonstrated enough at Middleweight, for me to consider that he'd stand a chance against the likes of Duran, Hearns and Leonard, as well as avoid finding himself in highly competitive, risky and some difficult bouts against Hagler's other top opponents - and, I'm not just talking about the title challengers. There are a few top quality opponents that Hagler faced, before winning the Middleweight Championship, to consider.

He'd beat them. Canelo is a good defensive guy with a top chin and accuracy. Plus he can counter well.

GGG bettered Canelo on the vast majority of media score cards, and polls.

Well what if Canelo was 28 and they were 36? Easy calls, no?

Duran wasn't very good at middle.

Leonard might deserve an honorable mention shout or something but he did come back from three years of inactivity (five but for the Kevin Howard fight) to beat a still-reigning Marvin Hagler.

You wouldn't consider that he'd stand a chance against guys that lost to Sims and Barkley?

Which of them lost to Sibson?

In what way does Canleo compare to Barkley, at Middleweight?

Duran, Hearns, and Leonard all had mixed, limited results at 160.

And, at present, Canelo's results at Middleweight are what, exactly?
