Hagler vs Golovkin?

Out of interest, was there anything in particular that brought you to your conclusions?

 

GGG would have his hands full. Hagler is every fighter's worst nightmare

 

The more i watch of GGG the more robotic and stiff he comes across as. Definitely one dimensional compared to guys like Hagler, Monzon and Hopkins. His power has flatlined as the opposition improved as well. He hits hard but not as hard as was thought a couple of years back. He's a very good fighter in an era where others taper off at "good". That's my thoughts recently anyway.

 

I think its the conservative eastern european style of boxing that he has been taught. While GGG and other eastern european fighters have very strong fundementals, they are a bit rigid and not prone to experimenting or surprising their opponent.

Hagler could improvise and do creative things like switching stances. GGG would be confused by this. Plus, while GGG is a heavy hitter, he is not a one punch ko guy like Julian Jackson. On a scale from 1 to 10, GGG is 9 in terms of power. But Hagler can handle that power and it would discourage GGG. I see Hagler winning a decision in a 12 rounder, and in a 15 rounder, a stoppage win from Hagler is not out of the question.

That being said, I do think GGG won yesterday.

36-year old Golovkin sounds a bit like 36-year old Joe Louis when you put it like that.

 

thanks. There may not be much between them now, but if the fight happened between 2012-2015, Golovkin would have won decisively. In fact, i gave GGG 8 rounds in their first fight. I can see a case for a draw from yesterday though i narrowly gave it to GGG.

Agreed - I think that, once Golovkin began to fall in love with his power, his movement became next to non-existent, other than that of a forward stalker. It's a predictable offense.

His defense is also poor, as a result, and so he's easy to hit. Fans refer detractors to his iron chin but, while a good set of whiskers is a nice backstop, it can't stop rounds slipping away, when one is being landed on continuously.

Golovkin is definitely heavy-handed, but he is not the 'monster' or 'murderous' puncher that the boxing public has been sold on. Hagler has more of just about everything and is a much better puncher (not necessarily as hard a puncher); faster, more prolific, cleaner and more accurate.

 

Hagler smash, different level. 3G cannot beat elite or above. Hag is above elite.

 

I don't think people appreciate the size difference between the pair, Golovkin is way bigger than Hagler. Has anyone seen that pic of them both together?

 

Hagler would win. In a toe to toe shoot-out, Hagler has that extra "something", that has him
ranked in the top 3 All-time MW's.

 

Different levels.

Hagler is an elite all time fighter, GGG is barely elite in 2018.

And for those saying Triple Hype's underwhelming performances against Canelo x2, Jacobs and even Brook are down to age well isn't it funny how GGG seemed to suddenly age as soon as he stepped up his opposition level and started fighting guys who were actually world class rather than the likes of Macklin, Stevens, Geale and Martin Murray ??

 

Do you see Canelo walking down a 32 year old Golovkin?

 

Hagler by UD. It would be a fight between two offensively skilled and granite chinned fighters, the difference would be that Hagler was more versatile and therefore he would better adjust during the fight.
