castillo is one of the most underrated boxers of his time. i thought he looked brilliant against sal sanchez.
the competition he faced and whos respect he earned is badass. pedroza, arguello, sanchez, laporte, chavez.
i saw him fight live when i was 11 or 12 and rooted for him cause he was from texas.

I just don't see how Golovkin won it. Canelo did way better that night.

Danny "Little Red" Lopez vs Salvador "Chava" Sanchez (February 2, 1980) (15 Rounds for the WBC Featherweight Title)

    Round 1: 10-9 Sanchez
    Round 2: 10-9 Sanchez
    Round 3: 10-9 Sanchez
    Round 4: 10-9 Sanchez
    Round 5: 10-9 Sanchez
    Round 6: 10-9 Sanchez
    Round 7: 10-9 Sanchez
    Round 8: 10-9 Sanchez
    Round 9: 10-9 Sanchez
    Round 10: 10-9 Sanchez
    Round 11: 10-9 Sanchez
    Round 12: 10-9 Sanchez
    Round 13: TKO

    My Score: 120-108 Sanchez (ATOS)

Official Scores: (120-108 Sanchez) (119-110 Sanchez) (118-111 Sanchez)
Winner: By 13th round Technical Knockout to win the Featherweight Championship of the World, Salvador Sanchez.

Complete masterclass from Sanchez, Little Red didn't know really what he got himself into. A side note I found interesting, 6 months prior Salvador knocked out Felix Trinidad Sr. (that's right, Tito's dad) in 5 rounds. Lopez would fair better in the rematch, but ultimately only lasted one more round.

Castillo was only 22/23 when he fought Arguello there, the guy definitely should get more love. I'll be watching him versus Sanchez here pretty soon, the man deserves respect.

I would actually love to debate it.
Feels so off to me that everyone else has a completely different card.

I don't have the energy nor do I want to get pissed like that again which I feel would happen if I started talking about it. So I'm burying it, the healthy way to do things.

Larry Holmes vs Lorenzo Zanon (February 3, 1980) (15 Rounds for the WBC Heavyweight Title)

    Round 1: 10-9 Holmes
    Round 2: 10-9 Holmes
    Round 3: 10-9 Zanon
    Round 4: 10-6 Holmes
    Round 5: 10-9 Zanon
    Round 6: KO

    My Score: 48-44 Holmes (ATOS)

Official Scores: (49-44 Holmes) (49-45 Holmes) (48-46 Holmes)
Winner: By 6th round Knockout to retain the Heavyweight Championship of the World, Larry Holmes.

Very unimpressive performance by Holmes, he didn't even look like he wanted to be there. Rarely used that famous jab like he could, and let this former European Champion win rounds off a top 5 ATG Heavyweight.

Jim Watt vs Charlie Nash (March 14, 1980) (15 Rounds for the WBC Lightweight Title)

    Round 1: 10-8 Nash
    Round 2: 10-9 Watt
    Round 3: 10-9 Watt
    Round 4: TKO

    My Score: 28-28 (ATOS)

    Official Scores: (29-28 x 2 Watt) (28-28 Even)
Winner: By 4th round Technical Knockout to retain the Lightweight Championship of the World, Jim Watt

Nash came out firing and put Watt on his rear, Nash is cut about the eye before the end of the round. Watt regroups taking the next two rounds with his jab. Nash starts the 4th with some good punches landed, and what at first looks like a pretty decent DDT. After a second look, Watt had caught Nash with a crunching left hand that put Nash down and he grabbed Watt around the head and took him down with him. Watt would knock goodtime Charlie down 2 more times in the end before the ref waives it off.

Vito Antuofermo vs Alan Minter (March 16,1980) (15 Rounds for the WBA & WBC Middleweight Titles)

    Round 1: 10-9 Minter
Round 2: 10-10 Even (Very close, Minter's snappy jab straight left & now a hook thrown is good work, but Antuofermo started landing and fouling effectively to maybe even it)
Round 3: 10-9 Minter (Minter a stylish operator boxes beautifully landing sharp crisp shots at will, easily takes the 3rd round)
Round 4: 10-9 Antuofermo (Vito gets on the board roughhousing & landing some good shots too, Minter a smooth operator uses the lead elbow well to help hold off Vito's charges)
Round 5: 10-9 Antuofermo (Vito is making it his fight now, even landing cleaner than he normally does, Minter who boxed so well the first 3 rounds is unraveling a but)
Round 6: 10-9 Antuofermo (Vito fighting well having it his own way, as accurate as Minter was in the 1st 3 rounds where he couldn't miss, now he can't land, missing everything)
Round 7: 10-9 Minter (Minter bites down on his gum shield and gets back in the fight landing the better blows of the 2 in the round)
Round 8: 10-9 Minter (Close round, Minter just edged it)
    Round 9: 10-9 Minter
    Round 10: 10-9 Minter
Round 11: 10-9 Antuofermo (Vito mauled and brawled his way inside and landed well to the body, and landed the bigger shots upstairs to get back in the fight)
Round 12: 10-9 Antuofermo (Very close, Minter fought well but Vito was moving Alan around the ring with some of the shots he landed)
Round 13: 10-9 Antuofermo (Very close)
Round 14: 10-8 Antuofermo (Vito scores a big knockdown that might have been a push, big round for Antuofermo and might have sealed the fight on another's scorecard)
Round 15: 10-9 Minter (Minter out of the gate lands a big right hook that looks to have hurt Vito, Minter sells out and clearly wins the final round)

    My Score: 143-142 Antuofermo

Official Scores: (149-137 Minter) (145-143 Antuofermo) (144-141 Minter)
Winner: By Split Decision to win the Middleweight Championship of the World, Alan Minter.

Honestly despite all the mauling and brawling this is a very good exciting fight, both men gave it their all. I have it 1 point win for Antuofermo, but I could see anywhere from a 2 point win for Vito to a draw. I cannot however see 9 or more rounds that Minter would've need to win with the 10-8 14th round against him. If Alan doesn't get knocked down, then I could see a case made that he edges the fight, but this was so close neither man winning more than 1 round then the other there's just no room for a Minter victory. Antuofermo in my view did more than enough to at the very least keep his crown on a draw. Vito would get his rematch in the UK on Minter's home turf and would go on to get shutout over 8 rounds before retiring on cuts.

@rorschach51 it never ceases to amaze me just how random the fights you watch are...have you collated a list that you're working your way down or just watch random fights on YouTube?

    Lol.

Well, there is this boxing site I use that has a huge vault full of thousands of fights, it was scorecards for which one so I go in chronological order. I worked my way through all the teen's, 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's, 60's, 70's and fights not dated which is where all those fights recently from a couple years ago came from. I'm just now starting on the 1980's and will go in order until I'm caught up to current.

Roman Gonzalez vs. Moises Fuentes @ 10 rounds super flyweight division.

    Round 1 Gonzalez 10-9
    Round 2 Gonzalez 10-9
    Round 3 Gonzalez 10-9
    Round 4 Gonzalez 10-9
    Round 5 Gonzalez TKO

This was a pretty good performance by Gonzalez given the circumstances prior to the fight. From the get-go he became the aggressor and dictated the pace of the fight. With each passing round Gonzalez unleashed more and more punishment on Fuentes, blooding his nose, cutting him up and bruising his face. Fuentes obviously tried to fight fire with fire, trying to stand his ground against my nicaraguan buddy, but Gonzalez would catch and shot through his punches and ultimately Chocolatito with a short right hook send Fuentes down for the count in round number five.

With this victory Gonzalez seems to be on course for a future title shot, with the most likely candidate being Kal Yafai, however before that I would like for Roman to get 1 or 2 warm up fights before a Yafai fight. As for Moises, retirement seems like a very possible thing for him and if he does retire, he can keep his head high, because he was able to become a world champion and amassed a very good resume, having fought:

    Juan Hernandez. former WBC Champion.
    Raul Garcia. Former 2-time Champion
Ivan Calderon. (shot version, but nonetheless a good victory)
    Donnie Nietes x2.
Luis De La Rosa Former Contender.
    Oswaldo Novoa. former WBC Champion.
Francisco Rodriguez Former Unified WBO/IBF Champion.
    Kosei Tanaka.
    Daigo Higa.
    Roman Gonzalez.

And to conclude this post. A prime Gonzalez is a better fighter p4p than Golovkin and Canelo. :deal:
