I thought Canelo won easily. 3G never really woke up until late in the fight and by then Canelo already had rounds in the bag. I'm also saying this as a Golovkin fan.
Canelo won 8-4. Jabs are cool and they're scoring shots, but Canelo's body work, dictation of the pace and overall physical damage done won him the fight.
This is how I had it, on a internet stream GGG / Canelo 10-9 9-10 9-10 10-9 10-9 9-10 10-10 10-9 10-9 10-9 10-9 9-10 Total. 7-4-1 for GGG. Punch stats more of less agree: https://www.*******.com/canelo-golovkin-rematch-compubox-punch-stats--131871
Once that bell rang at the end of the 12th i said to a friend of mine "Theyre giving this to Canelo." Unless GGG dominates Canelo completely or knocks him out hes not getting the judges call. Anything even resembling a close fight Canelo is getting the decision.
Haha, people on this forum would throw out scores like 117-111 and 116-112... The amount of overwhelming sadness on the forum so far has not disappointed, I'll say that.
I agree. I predicted Canelo would win a clear UD but it was just odd watching Canelo dominating GGG chasing him down. GGG caught up at the end but only because Canelo expended so much energy chasing GGG around and throwing hard power shots.
Some really god awful takes here today. I had it 116-112 Golovkin. Same score as the last fight but this one was closer, that's just how my round scoring came about. I'm not particularly phased by Canelo getting the nod. I disagree with it but it was very close and I expect the home fighter to get the nod in those situations. If GGG was so bothered by that then he shouldn't have signed to fight in Vegas again. Now, I'm seeing usual suspects on both sides give absolutely vile opinions, somehow unable to see that two top tier fighters just put on a wonderful show. Canelo to me was always very good but I wasn't sure if he was great. He's great to me now. He came out in a slightly different style and made improvements on the last fight. At only 28 I look forward to seeing him in more superb fights - I hope Oscar doesn't restrict him to twice a year going forward. No more 'Canyellow' talk, no more thinking he'll struggle with strong guys at 160 and no more thinking he isn't elite. Coming in at a different size was a bit of a gamble and he seemed physically hurt more often in this fight as a result, but he was also able to fight in longer spurts so I guess it paid off. I still think he lost a narrow fight, but margins at tight at the top and he has my respect. He was wise to work the body lot and boy can he throw some mean hooks downstairs. I do however think scoring for Canelo just because he was the one coming forward is silly. Appreciate some leaned toward GGG in the first fight for this reason, but I see a difference between sitting on the rope (something which Canelo hardly did in this fight, testament to his game plan) and just fighting off the back foot. I guess Canelo will fight Lemmy next. He's savvy enough to take that left hook away from him but I figure that could be a pretty fun fight. Not sure where GGG goes from here. Already seen people saying GGG was never that good, EuroBum etc - unsurprisingly none of this is comes from posters I have a shred of respect for as posters without bias (not that it means I don't enjoy some of what they post). I thought at 36 to fight as well as he did down the stretch was a remarkable achievement. 3 of his last 4 have been 12 round struggles and that's going to take a real toil on his body. I actually though he did a pretty good job of fighting off the backfoot - jabbed well, landed more upstairs than in the first fight that's for sure. Sanchez's advice was worrying. He wanted his 36 year old fighter to stand a trade in the middle with the younger fresher guy, which is fine, as GGG is the physically stronger and bigger puncher. But after seeing your fighter look very uncomfortable in receiving hooks to the body in the 5th, then that's a poor tactic to implore of him. Rian on Twitter (someone who knows basically every fighter in the world) mentioned how Soviet fighters like GGG tend to be risk averse and resort back to their old school boxing style - that's exactly what happened. It is effective but the problem there is that not everyone likes to school for fighters in that style. Interestingly a lot of those giving Golovkin stick for fighting backwards with the jab are those that tend to favour other fighters when they fight in this manner, but it's whatever really. I'm not opposed to seeing him hang them up now in honesty. TL;DR - excellent fight between excellent fighters. If you're going to dump on either guy's performance and not give both exemplary credit, then you're a fan boy on either side and not a boxing fan in my estimation.
Why can't some people just get over it. Canelo won and thats it. Bout was quite even and could be scored either way. But no way there is robbery.
I had Golovkin winning by a round. Could lso see a draw. Canelo winning is awarding him a round he likely didnt deserve, but I commend how he came out on the night.
I had it 8-4 to Golovkin. I felt that the rounds he won, he won more decisively than the first time. Canelo was competitive throughout and he had a very good patch in the middle of the fight where he showed his class. But, Golovkin won.
