Marciano was punching older men, he would naturally have more stamina in the later rounds than Louis36,Walcott 38,Charles 32/33,Moore 38/40. Plus Marciano wasn't hitting 220lbs class guys in their prime. Tyson is proven at that Marciano is not.

Remember...Tyson never got up off the canvas and came back to win the fight....one word in this fight folks...and that word is "heart". Marciano can't be judged mainly by what we can see...

Ok I’ll be one of the few but I’m picking Marciano. Although Tyson has him on hand speed they weren’t as far apart in other areas. Power it’s a draw and defense also a draw in my opinion. But rocky had far superior endurance and a better chin. Man was dazed once in his career (no he wasn’t hurt by the Walcott knock down more of a balance issue). Can’t think of a heavy weight that wasn’t dazed at least once it’s absurd to think otherwise. He was a better fighter on the inside then Tyson (part of Holyfield’s plan was to crowd him and it worked I can only imagine it would have worked for the Rock as well). Picking Rocky in 7 as he will set a pace Tyson couldn’t possibly Keep up with.

Remember in his prime he was never put on the canvas and never by a 38 years old 192lbs pounder or a 40 years old 188pounder who was better at light heavy. Rocky Marciano the mystical and mythical chimera who would always find a way to win ,the man who could defy both logic and physics.
Two of his fights,[with Simmons and Charles2], would have been stopped in his opponents favour had they been fought today.
    What a crock!

Q Rocky ever hit by a power punching 220lbs class guy who was in his prime?
Q Do you think Walcott and Moore drop Tyson?

Rocky fought a hand full of HWs, forget about full blown trimmed 210+ A single name in Joe Louis, who wasn´t a full blown HW in his prime either.

Please stop spreading the Marcianista brain virus among the board. We had some times with less braindead threads, forget about putting an 180pounder against one of the #1 H2H HWs of all time.

You may put him against more equal boxers of that era, like Ratliff, Boyd or Spinks.

Please don´t put him in total unfair bouts. Give Marcianista brain virus no chance. Thanks.

I got Mike Tyson by KO in the mid rounds after a brutal slugfest, Marciano would have his moments but Mike Tyson would eventually overpower him.

Answer the question with a question. Was Marciano ever knocked out? Reasonably was he ever close to it? Honest answer is no. That’s not to say he can’t be knocked out. Anyone who gets hit just right buy any of the top HWs is going down. Walcott was a decent puncher but his best attribute like Moore against Rocky was he was a great counter puncher. Cathing Rocky off guard in both instances of his knock downs. I don’t have the answer to the Walcott and Moore question and neither do you. It’s all speculation. They most likely lose. The height and reach argument against Marciano is kind of ridiculous considering every decent fighter he went against (exception of Harry Matthews who was slightly over rated) was taller and weighed more. Shkor was a decent puncher of 220 plus. Unfortunately the taller guys couldn’t compete w the better smaller guys of that era. Which in point shouldn’t count against Rocky. That being said does Rocky even come close to losing to Buster Douglas? Does he put on a better performance against Holyfield?

Both great so, hey, but faster and bigger is an awful, awful combination to overcome. So Tyson for me.

Christ this was terribly written but ok I'll play.

    1. Who cares about prime condition? It's a chin, it doesn't magically disappear. In fact when he lost his defense / head movement, his lackluster chin was exposed.

KO to Holyfield, KO to Douglas, KO to Lewis.

    2. Marciano had a terrific chin. Its WIDELY known that the knockdown to Walcott was a slip and didn't hurt him. Walcott hit him with many better punches afterwards and he didn't even show a sign of slowing down.

"I wasn't hurt by the punch, not even dazed" -Marciano

He even called the best punch Walcott landed a body blow from the 12th round.

Moore quote "only sparked me out of a split second", then Marciano was fine and stood up like it was nothing. It was more of a balance issue there too.

Marciano's frequent referee, Ruby Goldstein: "It was hard to tell if Rocky was ever in trouble, because hitting him was like hitting a stone wall, if he was ever hurt, he didn't show it"

"He was tough, real tough..." Joe Louis

"As indestructible as any fighter in history" -Bert Sugar (100 greatest fighters)

Moore was the only person to even HURT Marciano in his career, and you wanna compare it to Mike Tyson, who got knocked out in the 4th round by a fat journeyman Danny Williams?

Ezzard Charles would do quite well against Tyson imo, Walcott could give him trouble too. Though Marciano winning would be the only one I'm confident in, it's almost like Marciano was a better fighter than both
