"There is no question that Fitzsimmons had a heavyweights punching power. In 1893, he knocked out seven men in one night and accomplished the feat in under nineteen rounds. All men weighed over 200 pounds. One stood 6-7 and weighed in at 240 pounds. The fact that a middleweight could knock out a man the size of Lennox Lewis demonstrates his worth as a hitter." http://coxscorner.tripod.com/fitz.html Quote taken from above website. Bob Fitzsimmons may have been able to hurt today's heavies with his punching power.
probably another fairytale. and by the way, i worked as a bouncer and knocked out several 265 Pound bums......does that mean i could hurt say a povetkin?? hell no. fitzimmons was a pioneer. credits to him for that. but against a modern Heavyweight?? no way in hell.
Im sure theres a few "265 bums" in the heavyweight division for Fitzsimmons to get his bearings. And if guys like Neven Pajkic can knock down former champs like Tyson Fury, Fitzsimmons cant do any worse.
Imagine GGG KOed Danny Jacobs in 4 rounds, and then Canelo in 2 rounds, add in that the first was in a finnish fight, and the second was scheduled for 25 rounds. Imagine him KOing a well ranked Light Heavyweight in a round. Imagine him fighting Usyk, and while ultimately coming up short making a mess of his opponent in the process, add in him KOing other top Cruiserweights in a few rounds, and also KOing a heavyweight faster than anyone else. Imagine him at 39 performing similarly again against Usyk. Imagine him aged 40 winning the Super Middleweight title, with hand injuries, and collapsing soon after from pneumonia. I think that puts Fitz's greatness in perspective, and I never even referenced his destruction of Dempsey, or his KO of Choynski.
